Lodged in the Santa Catalina Castle, at the very top of Jaén city.
The Parador in Jaen is lodged in the 12th century Santa Catalina Castle and this is a lovely way to stay right in town – but above it all. The castle is literally at the very top of Jaen city on a ridge with panoramic views of the Sierra Magina and then out over this lovely provincial capital and to the vast fields of olive groves beyond.
One of the nicest features of this hotel is a spectacular dining room that could only be described as “fit for a castle”. 12th century ambience, however, is only enhanced by the traditional good cooking of regional favourites by Parador chefs.
The rooms at the Santa Catalina Parador are cosy and some have views. The staff at this particular Parador has been described as particularly friendly. They are well qualified to point you in the direction of Jaen’s best sites, possibly beginning with the castle museum which is just out the door and to your right.
