Cortijo
Puerto Llano
is an old Andalucian farmhouse (Cortijo means farmhouse) situated
in the hills of Southern Spain, 15kms. from RONDA in the province
of Malaga. The area is unspoilt and the scenery is stunning. Ronda
is an ancient town dating back to pre-Roman days, dramatically set
across its famous gorge, the TAJO. It is a bustling and charming
place well worth exploring as traces of its long history and previous
settlers are still very much in evidence. The colourful and lively
"fiesta" is at the beginning of September. RONDA is ideally
placed for touring Southern Spain. It is only one and a half hours
drive from SEVILLE or MALAGA and two and a half hours from CORDOBA
and GRANADA. MARBELLA and the COSTA DEL SOL are one hour away.
Cortijo
Puerto Llano stands on the site of a Roman settlement; in the
16th Century a convent was built of which five of the original arches
still remain. The "cortijo" has been restored and converted
into a comfortable house by Aart van Kruiselbergen and Michael Cox,
both painters. They have taken great care to preserve the original
rustic character of the farmhouse. However, modern amenities (like
central heating) have been added. There are 3 double guest bedrooms,
each with own bathroom and 1 single guest room with shower. Beyond
the courtyard is the swimming pool. The original convent arches
overlook the pool and serve as a loggia. There is a shared kitchen/dining
room available for guests who want to prepare their own lunch or
dinner. There is also a large sitting room for the exclusive use
of guests.
Cortijo
Puerto Llano is essentially a place for a quiet stay well away
from the discotheques and noise of the coast. It may not be suitable
for children. Good for writing, painting or just relaxing. There
are no organized activities. The surrounding countryside, rich in
bird life and wild flowers (April-May) is ideal for walking or motoring.
There are many picturesque villages nearby. A spectacular Roman
amphitheatre is 4 kms. away.

Since
Cortijo Puerto Llano opened, it has received high praise in features
in several magazines. It has also been chosen for inclusion in the
prestigious "Time Out in Andalucia" guide, according
to which the Cortijo is "impeccably run". While Santana´s
"Small Hotels and Inns of Andalucia" writes about
us: "It is simple and elegant with a minimum of clutter".
James Lees-Milne, after staying with us in October 1990,
wrote in his diary (published as Ceaseless Turmoil, Diaries, 1988
- 1992) entry for 2nd October 1990: "It is an old farmstead,
recently and extremely well converted by our hosts" In his
entry of 10th October 1990 he writes "immaculate service.....
and every attention desirable".
Many of our guests seem to agree with the above mentioned praise
as about 70% of them come back year after year. It happens quite
regularly that guests already book for the following year even before
they leave.

The nearest airports are those of MALAGA, SEVILLE, JEREZ and GIBRALTAR.
There is also a very good, daily train connection with MADRID.
Renting
a car at the airport is the most practical way of getting about.
Take
the RONDA LA VIEJA/SETENIL road (MA 449) outside RONDA off the RONDA-SEVILLE
road. Continue along this road for exactly 8 Kms. CORTIJO PUERTO
LLANO is on the right-hand side at the Km 8 marker, its big green
gates clearly visible from the road.
