GRANADA

Al Andalus y la Ciencia is a permanent exhibition in the Museo Parque de las Ciencias of the scientific discoveries made between the 8th and 15th centuries during Moorish rule in southern Spain. Paintings, sketches, maps, replicas, informative panels, photographs and many interactive modules.

The Centro de Arte Joven Rey Chico exhibits works by young artists.

A collection of paintings, engravings and photographs, many relating to the mythical figure of Don Quijote de la Mancha, are in the Casa Museo Manuel de Falla. This is the house where the illustrious Spanish musician composed many of his great works.

Regular series of art exhibitions are held throughout the year at the Centro Municipal Gran Capitán in the centre of the city.

At the Casa Federico García Lorca there is a permanent exhibition photographs, sketches and documents relating to the life and works of the Spanish poet and playwright.

Art for art’s sake is the idea behind the Granada Capital Art Gallery where works of all kinds of artistic styles and trends are exhibited.

Oils, watercolours and graphic art are exhibited at Cidi Hiaya, a gallery in the heart of the city.

Exhibitions relating to the history, evolution, customs and traditions of local cave dwellers can be seen at the Centro de Interpretación del Sacromonte.

The Centro José Guerrero, a gallery for contemporary art which holds regular exhibitions, is situated in the heart of the ancient Moorish silk bazaar.

The Centro Cultural Memoria de Andalucía is a modern museum where permanent exhibits and many temporary exhibitions focus on the history and culture of Andalucía.

GUADIX

The Sala de Exposiciones Municipal holds regular exhibitions of paintings and sculptures.

MONTEFRÍO

The 16th-century Casa de los Oficios, originally used by artisans, has been restored and is now a space for art exhibitions of all kinds.

An exhibition depicting the last frontier of the Moors in Al-Andalus can be seen at the Centro de Interpretación El Centinela situated within the Castillo de la Villa.

MOTRIL

Originally built for a wealthy Moorish convert, the 16th-century Casa de la Palma was then used as a sugarcane refinery and is now a cultural centre. The principal exhibits relate to the sugar industry and guided tours are offered.

Occasional art exhibitions are held in the Casa Consistorial, the 17th-century town hall building which presents remarkable examples of mudéjar architecture. Some rooms are open permanently to visitors who can see artwork and period furnishings.

The Museo Aeronáutico, an excellent air and space museum, has numerous exhibits to interest children and adults alike.

SALOBREÑA

The Zoco de Artesanos, a craftsmen’s market, is the place to see how glassblowers, carpenters, ceramicists or toy makers work and create.

The Parque de la Fuente, well known for its twice weekly night-time markets, holds various cultural exhibitions in the summer.

The last functioning sugar factory in Europe, the Fábrica de Azúcar, has a small museum with exhibits and a model of the whole process of refining sugar cane.

ALMUÑÉCAR

A regular series of contemporary art exhibitions are held at the Galería de Arte Nexo.

In the building housing the local library and music school, the Centro Cívico, there is a gallery which holds regular exhibitions of art and other cultural activities, including the annual international Andrés Segovia guitar competition.
