Art Galleries in Malaga

The city has a wealth of art galleries which include:

Municipal galleries: The Municipal Heritage Museum in Paseo de Reding 1. The museum feature are and objects in the permanent exhibition pluse two temporary exhibitions by local artists.   More>


Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, one of the world's foremost art collectors, now has her own eponymous museum in Malaga, which opened in March 2011. The paintings are from her personal collection, amassed over the past 30 years. More>

Archivo Municipal in Alameda Principal, 23 (open Monday to Friday 11.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00)  Easy to find on the SOHO ( or sea) side of the Alhameda in central Malaga. Take a look in if walking in the Alhemada. A different temporary exhibition every month. Entrance Free.  


Centro Cultural Provincial María Victoria Atencia  
(was called Diputación Provincial Art Gallery before May 2004) in Calle Olleras 34-36  (open Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 13.00 and from 19.00 to 21.00).

La Termíca is a is a central public creative space amd should be on the radar of any contemporary art lover. Holds two concurrent temport exhibtions. Located slightly outside the city centre where local residents and visitors can learn and exchange creative ideas. They can do this through the many exhibitions and regular workshops, lectures and concerts held by the centre. More>

Inaugurated in 2003 the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, or CAC as it is known locally, is an important centre for contemporary art that has become a reference point for international artists.   Calle Alemania. Palacio de la Aduana
Palacio de la Aduana is now the large Malaga Museum of Fine Art. More>

The Palacio Episcopal, Plaza del Obispo, has a variety of exhibitions in its first floor galleries. More>

The Atenea
Atenea is a respected art and cultural society. Now based in Calle Compañia by Plaza de la Constitution since May 2000. They have regular exhibitions by many of Malaga's best known artists. The grand building, near the Plaza de la Constitucion, used to be the home of the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Malaga and is where Pablo Picasso must have had his first contact with the art world, as his father gave classes there.

Fundación Picasso
Fundación Picasso in Pablo Ruiz Picasso's birth place in Plaza de la Merced, 15. Visiting exhibitions as well as permanent ones are on show in this lovely old house. Open Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00. More >

The Pompidou Centre
Opened on 28 March 2015, the Pop-Up Pompidou is housed in El Cubo, a cuboid glass structure in Malaga port, and buildings next to it. The 6000m2 centre will has 80 works, with two or three annual exhibitions lasting 3-6 months during the next five years. More >

The Architects College
The Architects College in Palmeras de Limonar stage many important exhibitions in their gallery. Open weekdays between 12 noon and 14.00 and 19.00 and 21.00.

Colegio de Medicos
Colegio de Medicos in calle Curtidores, 1. The recently restored Doctors' college is well worth a visit for the beauty of the historic building itself, as well as the frequent exhibitions in their gallery. Open 17.00 to 20.30 weekdays and Saturday 10.00 to 14.00.

Malaga University
Malaga University has an art gallery in Plaza de la Merced 2, on the first floor. Open daily, except Sundays and holidays, from 11.00 to 14.00 and 18.00 to 21.00.

Alfredo Viñas Gallery, calle Denis Belgrano 19, 1º. Open Monday to Friday from 18.00 to 21.00 or by appointment. (tel 952 60 12 29)

Benedito Gallery, calle Niño de Guevara, 2. Open Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 13.00 and 18.00 to 21.00 and Saturday mornings.

Caja Rural Gallery, calle Tomas Heredia, 14. Open Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00.

Cartel Gallery, calle Alameda Principal 35-3º is open Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 14.00 and from 18.00 to 21.00.

Espacio Tres, calle Granada 34 is run by artist Antonio Casares Palma, Open Tuesday to Friday evenings between 19.00 and 21.00 and Saturday from 11.00 to 13.00.

Fundación Nacional Fenix, Cortina del Muelle, 17 is open 10.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 21.00.

Marin Galy art gallery, calle Duquesa de Parcent, 12 is open Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 13.30 and 18.00 to 21.00 and Saturday mornings.

Nova Art Gallery, Paseo de Sancha, 6 is open Monday to Friday 10.00 to 14.00 and 18.00 to 21.00 and Saturdays mornings.

Pablo Ruiz, calle Granada, 44 is open 11.00 to 14.00 and 18.00 to 21.30.

Porticus Gallery, calle Compañía 3 is open Monday to Saturday mornings 11.30 to 13.30 and Monday to Friday evenings from 18.00 to 21.00.

Reding Galeria de Arte, Avenida de Pries, 32 is open Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 14.00 and from 18.00 to 21.00 and Saturday morning.

Unicaja art gallery, calle Doctor Perez Bryan 3, 2º is open Monday to Friday from 19.00 to 21.00.

Sociedad Economica de Amigos del Pais art gallery in Plaza de la Constitucion, 7 is open Monday to Friday from 11.30 to 13.00 and from 18.00 to 21.00 and Saturday mornings. Also houses a tourist office. 

Taller Gravura, calle Coronel 3, 1º (tel. 952 21 01 41) is open Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 13.00 and from 18.00 to 21.00.

Malaga Airport has its own art gallery in Terminal 1. Open Monday to Sunday from 11.00 to 14.00 and from 16.00 to 20.00.
