Like neighbouring Torremolinos (to the east) and Fuengirola (to the west), the appeal of Benalmádena as a holiday destination is pretty straightforward: in addition to year-round sunshine and a long stretch of beach and is packed with great facilities from shops and restaurants to wildlife parks and amusement parks. So the fact that it has a range of great accommodation options should also come as no surprise. From five-star hotels to cheaper bed and breakfast-style options there’s something to suit every taste and budget, while in recent years the number of aparthotels and holiday apartments in Benalmádena has also risen.
Like many of the former fishing communities that line the Costa del Sol, in amongst the high-rise hotels and apartment blocks, there’s an old village, Benalmádena Pueblo, where there are also more traditional village houses and apartments to rent. Outside of the busy summer months (when the town’s population is thought to triple), it’s excellently placed for a week or two’s playing some of the Costa del Sol’s best golf courses.
