Widely regarded as the capital of the Costa del Sol, Malaga is a stylish city which continues to attract visitors from all over the world.  Once a thriving port city, Malaga has evolved into one of the most attractive and stylish resorts of its kind in Europe.  The nightlife is both varied and exclusive, and many of the city´s night clubs and music bars are among the best in Spain.  From the main Larios centre all the way down to the port area and beyond, Malaga comes alive at night when some of the most popular music bars and clubs open their doors.  After a meal at one of Malaga´s fabulous restaurants, there are no shortage of late night venues to visit.  Whether you like to relax in a piano bar, dance the night away at one of the city´s many clubs or sip cocktails at the port side, there is a bar here for you.

CLUBS AND DISCOS

Vista Andalucía
All night flamenco from 22.30 to 06.00 - Olé! Avda de los Guindos, Malaga (95 223 1157).  This is one of the most famous flamenco venues in Malaga, and boasts some of the best performers in Andalucia. Locals and holidaymakers alike join in the fun and the passion of the flamenco.  Atmospheric, noisy and a real taste of Spain at its best.

El Cantor de Jazz
Live jazz on Thursdays in a Chicago style intimate, if smoky atmosphere. Calle Lazcano, 7 (95 222 2854).  One of the only jazz bars in the city to offer a fantastic line up of acts and performers.  This is an incredible venue for all jazz fans, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly.


O'Neill´s Irish Pub
Draught Guinness on tap and Irish music has made this a trendy place for young Malagueños. Calle Luis del Velazquez, 3. (95 260 1460).This spacious pub is a magnet for lovers of the black stuff, and also for fans of the traditional Irish craik. The decor is authentic, and this is reminiscent of many pubs in Dublin.  A great night out and very reasonable prices.  Situated close to all other bars and restaurants in this busy city centre location.

El Jardin
1 Calle Cañon. Dripping with elegance on a leafy corner near the cathedral and the Picasso museum, this place is great for people watching and light healthy fare with the added perk of regular live music, including skirt-swirling latino on Thursday nights. As its name would suggest, the bar is surrounded by some of the city`s most beautiful gardens, and enjoys a stunning location.  Built in 1887, the  building that houses El Jardin is a perfect example of the city´s architecture.

Weekend
Plaza de la Merced 14. Picasso was born in one of the stately houses surrounding this square. These days, the plaza's bars and cafés attract a lively student crowd. This cocktail lounge has a suitably moody dark interior and gets packed out at weekends. Offering revellers much more than the usual club land dance music, this is one of the city´s most attractive venues.  Very loud,and boasting incredible light and sound systems, Weekend is very much a young clubbers dream.

Liceo
Situated in Calle Beatas 21, This place attracts a local student crowd with its thumping music and fevered atmosphere. Set in a grand old mansion with several rooms and vibes to match your mood, this is alternative clubbing at its best.  Comprising of two floors with a reception area and bar at the entrance and two bedrooms with additional bars on the ground floor.  The staircase leads to a mezzanine level where you can watch the action down below, and several bars leading off the main floor.  The music is usually loud house and this is not a place for the faint-hearted.  Original floors and decor add to the intrigue of this club.  Entrance fee is from €6-€10, depending on the day.

ZZ Pub
Calle Tejón y Rodriguez 6. A funky late night club where you can elbow yourself in on Mondays and Thursdays to indulge in a little hip gyrating to the regular live bands; this club is popular with students.

Siempre Asi
Calle Convalecientes 5. Low lighting and plenty of space for a shimmy on the dance floor, the main music vibe here is Latino with rumba, salsa and rock on the dancechart.

PUBS AND BARS

Some of the liveliest bars and pubs can be found in Malaga´s city centre or in Malaga Port, where many venues have water side terraces.  La Malagueta and Pedregalejo are also vibrant suburbs of Malaga, and offer visitors several excellent pubs and bars.  Prices are generally reasonable in the city´s bars, and most are open until the early hours of the morning.

Sala Wengé
Sala Wengé is situated in the historical quarter of Malaga city, in C/Santa Lucia, and is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10pm till 7am.  Playing mainly house music with guest DJ´s and party nights, Sala Wengé is a great venue for serious music lovers, and is one of the biggest clubs in Malaga.  Different sessions and events are held here throughout the year, and the bar attracts music fans from all over the Costa del Sol.

Siempre Asi
Siempre Asi  is situated at Calle Convalecientes, 5, and offers low lighting and plenty of space for a shimmy on the dance floor. The main music vibe here is Latino with rumba, salsa and rock also on the menu.  A lively bar which attracts a mixed crowd. Popular with lovers of South American dance music and attracts visitors from all over the Costa del Sol.

La Tortuga
Situated on the water front at Pedregalejo, La Tortuga runs as a café by day and a lively cocktail bar by night. The spacious straw-roofed terrace is a major attraction, and it´s perfect for a sunny winter afternoon or a hot summer's night. The bar itself is made from tree trunks and the decor is quirky. La Tortuga mainly attracts people in their 20s and 30s and is especially popular with foreign students.  The music is varied, but is mostly Spanish disco and pop. La Galerna
Situated on the sea front at Pedregalejo, La Galerna has bright, bohemian decor and is the perfect place to relax and watch the world go by.  Fresh juices and milk shakes are served all day at La Galerna, as well as cocktails, fine wines and some great food.  The outside terrace is spacious and comfortable and the menu is varied.  Famous for its salads, La Galerna offers customers a great choice of lettuces, cheeses and dried fruits.  Fish dishes and lighter bites are also a favourite here and the location is unbeatable.

Miguel Cervantes Municipal Theatre
Regular concerts, theatre and dance performances. Recent appearances by Suzanne Vega and Art Garfunkle. Located behind Plaza de la Merced 95 222 4100.
