Cinemas on Costa del Sol

The old cinemas of Costa del Sol and Malalaga have largely been replaced by large multi-screen air-conditioned complexes, showing mainly Spanish and dubbed US films (very few are subtitled in other languages). Going to the cinema is an idea 'rainy day activity'. Many tourists would not consider doing something that you can do at home all year round, but it can still be an interesting experience, especially for those studying Spanish.

Many towns in Andalucía, especially the seaside towns, used to have open air cinemas as part of their summer entertainments programme. These marvellous features are now sadly almost extinct. Cine Las Palmeras in the village of La Cala was one, the cinema on the old feria ground in Estepona run by Julio Peces another.

Films listed as ‘VO’ – version original – are in their original language and subtitled in Spanish. Better still for those trying to improve their Spanish.
