The following is a list of international schools in Andalucía, ranging from those that offer a purely British or American programme to those that follow the Spanish curriculum but with a strong emphasis on tuition in English. Fees quoted are approximate and may not include registration, materials, meals, transport or other extras.

Sotogrande International School (SIS) is a leading international, co-educational, day and boarding school, for pupils aged 3-18 years, offering a high quality education leading to the IB Diploma and the American High School Diploma. School transport enables students to travel both from Marbella and Los Barrios each day.

The high-technology campus is designed to reflect our philosophy of collaborative learning that develops independent, high-achieving life-long learners. Our facilities include a theatre, music rooms, a multipurpose sports hall, swimming pool, outdoor basketball/football court and an all-weather sports field and running track. The school has its own federated golf club.

The Kindred Project is the school´s own independent NGO, currently involved in four programmes worldwide from Morocco, Ecuador and India to Uganda. Co-educational day and boarding school that teaches the Spanish curriculum and very intensive English as a Foreign Language to 750 children aged 2-18. Sixty staff, including 48 full time teachers. Thirty-two classrooms, labs, library, computer room, video room, sports facilities and auditorium. Extra curricular activities include sports, choir, dance and music. Annual ski trip and trip to UK.

Aloha College is situated on the outskirts of Marbella in Spain's Costa del Sol. The College is flanked by the championship golf course of Aloha and is opposite a very popular golf academy. Road access is excellent and 3 minutes along the highway takes you to the beach or the marina of Puerto Banús and within 5 minutes you are in Marbella town centre.

A school that offers The English National Curriculum in an international context to more than 500 boys and girls aged three to eighteen years. The college boasts first class facilities in every department, all set within a garden/campus environment. Students sit IGCSE and GCSE examinations in Year 11 and those who qualify to enter the Sixth Form study for AS levels and A2 (A) level examinations in preparation for university entrance at 18. Although the predominant language is English, being the first language of more than 80% of our students, the remaining group presents us with a most valuable diversity of cultures and nationalities.

100% of our Sixth Form students go on to universities in the UK and worldwide, such as Oxford, Cambridge and the University of London, where they study a wide range of subjects including Mathematics, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, English and Medicine.

BENALMÁDENA

Benalmádena International College
Benalmádena International College is a co-educational international school, founded in 1997, in Benalmádena, on the Costa Del Sol in Spain. It provides education to international children aged 3 to 16 years to IGCSE qualification standard, and also provides 'special needs' education. A-levels will start in September 2001. Extra-curricular activities include trips, sports and music. The school is moving to a purpose-built location near Nueva Torrequebrada in September 2000.

FUENGIROLA

St. Anthony's College - Co-educational school for 250 students from 3 to 18 years. The school teaches the British curriculum to GCE, A level, BUP and COU, intensive English, Spanish and Pitman secretarial course is also offered. Extra-curriculum activities include horse riding, drama, Spanish dance and self-defence. Facilities include two labs, library, tennis courts, pool, gym and recreational areas.

Almuñecar International School
Fully authorised co-educational Primary and Secondary school with 330 pupils at present, aged 2-18. Pupils study the full range of National Curriculum subjects as well as Spanish and social studies in accordance with the Spanish curriculum objectives. Courses lead to GCSE and A level examinations, with full convalidation of studies available, and students are prepared for university entry abroad, or here in Spain. There are 33 full time and 3 part time teachers, as well as Teaching Assistants in Primary. Class sizes are small, a maximum of 20 in Primary and 18 in Secondary. There are waiting lists for some Primary classes but there are usually a few places available in Secondary, except for Years 11 and 13. The facilities include sports area, 3 laboratories, 2 libraries, Sixth Form Study Centre and 2 information technology rooms. Social, cultural and sports activities are arranged.

Headmistress: Gillian Greenwood Sunland International School opens in September 2001 on a spacious countryside campus close to Cartama Estacion, near Malaga University and the Scientific and Technological Park of Andalucia. The School is no more than 25 minutes from eastern and central Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmadena-Costa, Churriana, Alhaurin, Pizarra or Coin.

Sunland offers an international curriculum, and will seek authorisation to offer the Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and IB Diploma Programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. English is the primary language of instruction, plus Spanish language and other courses in line with Ministry of Education guidelines. The School will offer Early Years and Primary classes for 3 to 9 year olds in September 2001, expanding annually thereafter to include the middle and secondary years. Well qualified teachers, mainly from the UK and Spain, ensure high quality teaching with an emphasis on the individual development of each student. The curriculum includes Information Technology, Music, Drama, Dance, Sports and Swimming. A variety of optional extracurricular activities take place after school.
