American Club of the Costa del Sol

The American Club of the Costa del Sol was formed in 1973 at the suggestion of the American Consul in Madrid. The first meeting in October of that year was at the Marbella Hilton (now the Hotel Don Carlos) with Paul Castelle as President. He also became the first Consular Agent on the Costa del Sol. The aim of the AMERICAN CLUB is to promote understanding between Spain and the United States and to foster friendship and co-operation between club members and members of the community.

Today there are five Chapters along the coast: in Nerja, Malaga, Fuengirola/Mijas/Los Boliches, Marbella and Estepona/Sotogrande.

As do all Chapters of The American Club, the Marbella Chapter has supported many Spanish charities: organising the blood donor drive, supporting the Alzheimers Society and CUDECA, and founding the first charity thrift shop on the coast, which is San Pedro Alcantara, on Avenida de la Constitucion (opposite the Police Station). This and various fund raising efforts by all Chapters, raise funds that go directly to several local charities.
