Vuelta a Andalucia - 2014

The Vuelta a Andalucia or Ruta del Sol 2014 took place in five stages from the 19th to 23 February 2014.

Prologue - Almeria to Almeria - Wednesday 19th February
Stage 1A - Velez Malaga to Jaen - Thursday 20th February 2014
Stage 2A - La Guardia de Jaen to Cabra - Friday 21st February 2014
Stage 3A - Sanlucar La Mayor to Sevilla - Saturday 22nd February 2014
Stage 4A - Ubrique to Fuengirola - Sunday 23rd February 2014.

 

 

Teams


There were about 15 teams taking part including Astana Pro, Belkin Pro, Katusha, Lotto Belisol, Movistar, Europacar, Team Sky, Tinkoff-Saxo, Trak Factory Racing, MTN Qhubeka, CCC Polsat Polkowice, Cofidis Solutions Credits, Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, ActiveJet, Giant-Shimano, Etixx, Topsport Vlaanderen, Rabobank Development.

 

 

Race


Of note is the Team Sky who took part in the race in 2010 and 2011 and since made the Tour of Algarve as their Season Opener. Bradly Wiggins was training in the race in his last season with Team Sky before moving to track to train for Rio Olympics.  

 

The race was won by Antonio Valverde of the Movistar team, Australian Richie Porte was second, the rider tipped as the next Team Sky frontman.

Prologue - Almeria to Almeria - Wednesday 19th February

Stage 1A - Velez Malaga to Jaen - Thursday 20th February 2014

Velez Malaga (dep 11.00) , Puerto de Zafarraya, Alhama de Granada, Tocon, Montefrio, Castillo de Locubin, Valdepeñas de Jaen, Los Villares, Jaen, Castillo de Santa Catalina

Stage 2A - La Guardia de Jaen to Cabra - Friday 21st February 2014
La Guardia de Jaen (dep 11.00) Los Villares, Martos, Carcabuey, Lucena, Morilles, Aguilar de la Frontera, Montilla, Cabra, Sanctuario Virgin de la Siierra.

Stage 3A - Sanlucar La Mayor to Sevilla - Saturday 22nd February 2014
Sanlucar La Mayor (dep 11.00), Benacazon, Aznalcazar, Hinojos, Berrocal, El Madroño, Minas de Castillo, Sevilla (Finish in Calle Secoya)

Stage 4A - Ubrique to Fuengirola - Sunday 23rd February 2014.
Ubrique (dep 12.00) Grazalema, Ronda, El Burgo, Yunquera, Coin, Mijas, Fuengirola (Finish in Avenida Santos Rein).
