Protected Natural Environments in Córdoba
Province
The mountain range of the Sierra Morena occupies Cordoba province's
northern flank and its gently rolling hills are home to the densely
wooded natural parks of the Sierra de Hornachuelos and the Sierra
de Cardeña y Montoro. Dotted around Cordoba are many protected
wetlands that have significant populations of white-headed ducks
and other wildfowl, particularly in winter; the largest of these
is the Laguna de Zóñar Natural Reserve. Cordoba city
has an unusual urban oasis of wildlife in its centre, Los Sotos
de la Albolafia Natural Monument, which is a woodland area on the
Guadalquivir river.
