Asset Backed Investments

Asset Backed investments

This type of investment is backed by underlying assets, such as shares. Both the capital and income of the investment are variable and are not guaranteed unless underwritten by the provider.

Most of these products invest in a portfolio of bonds or shares (or both) - shares have historically shown strong returns, though between 1999 and 2003, the markets have seen a 50 percent collapse. Therefore, asset backed investments should be seen in long-term perspective - i.e. a minimum five year investment.
