Re: Help with accommodation in Andalucia

You might think about looking up Casas Rural. They are very reasonably priced bed and breakfast places and there are plenty inland. They provide spotless accommodation in villages, They are also known as Hostels but nothing like the hostels in UK. If you are not staying long in one place they may su...

Re: Spain isnt cheap

OH just returned from a short visit to UK. He paid 115 for a meal(including drinks) for himself and daughter. He thought it costly but worth the money while she said how reasonable it was! He also took a carton of cigs for son having heard that it was twice the price in UK. We shop at local shops an...

Re: SO...Is Spain a Safe Place To Move To..?

I tend to agree that feeling safe in Spain or anywhere else for that matter depends on the area you are in. We live inland in splendid isolation with nearest neighbours 500+m in any direction. We are also a 10 min drive from the nearest village. When we first arrived we kept our gate locked at all t...

My OH says real Spain is anywhere that your car is older than your abuela! It certainly describes our 'inland flyblown' village well hahaha.

Sky.es

Has anyone tried the new Sky.se service? Or does anyone know anything about it or the box? My OH is looking at it but at 10 euros per month I am not so sure as I am happy with free Spanish tv.

I have an appointment this Wednesday at Hospital clinca in Malaga. Whilst my day to day Spanish is OK I wnat to be clear about the results of my biopsy and the subsequent treatment, prognosis etc.. Can anyone tell me how i can obtain a person able to translate at this level? I know this doesn't give...

Re: jewellery making tools

For stringing you will need a variety of pliers. The least you will need is needle nosed and curved. My advice is if you are just doing one thing buy cheap but if you intend to make more buy better quality. In Malaga there is a good art shop near the market where you can get craft tools including be...

Re: No Money in Spain

You don't need much money for a night out in Spain. Inland drinks are 1euro each and you can rent the table for a whole night with one drink! Unless you go into English bars where you will be hassled to get another one in. We laugh at the few tourists we get around here cos they have to have a full ...

When my kids bought KFC i would always try a bit but the chicken was slimy inside the batter. Fast food for me now is polo asada from the local restaurant comes with nice 'real chips' fried green peppers and a tasty salsa. :)

Re: Reasons to stay. Tell us your stories!

Yesterday my husband went into the tiny supermarket next to our favourite bar. We were topping up our beer supply before a visitor arrived and she had an offer on cruzcampo. When he got to the till the woman in front pulled out a 50 euro note and received change. Then it was his turn and he realised...

Hmmm I bought harina de maiz but it was nothing like cornflour as it was far too granular. Good for making mexican tortillas tho :)

Re: It's all relative?

I can't speak for the costa but inland we get a lot during June July and August. We find that geranium candles from Mercadona work well outside, when eating. Oddly, at our local venta they have a bright green pillar and we try to avoid the table next it as it seems to get more than it's fair share. ...

Re: Replacing Your Old Favourite English Brands for Spanish ??

Harina trigo is the flour you need for general baking. Its plain flour so you need to add baking powder. There is harina galetta used for cakes and biscuits but Ive never tried it! Trigo makes excellent yorkshire puds :) I have never found a basic self raising flour. The other flours are for differe...
