Re: "Road Tax"

You should not get wound up about road tax. It is a local tax and the Guardia could not care less whether you have it or not, unlike in the UK where driving untaxed is a serious offence. If you have a Direct debit to pay it and for some reason they deduct too much, like all direct debits, one word t...

Looks interesting. They don’t seem to use UK DNS servers, probably a good thing, so which ones do you use?

Re: British mortgage Spanish property

If you have a mortgage on a property in Spain from a Spanish bank you get a special escritura for the loan and the loan has to be registered with the property registrar. When you pay off the mortgage the process is quite complicated. You have to get a certificate from the bank and they have to send ...

If you were on it in hospital with no side effects, and it controls the pain I would be inclined to keep taking it until you can sort out an alternative next week. Most of the problems seem to be longer term.

Re: Renta 2017

I would treat it as an annuity. You were free to do what you liked with the lump sum and you chose to buy an annuity - you could have spent it on a car! The reason you get special tax relief on annuities is because most of the payment comprises your own contribution to the fund so you cannot pay tax...

Re: Removing an Almond Tree - Legal?

We built our house on a plot of 100 almond trees. Many had to be removed - no problems with planning permission etc.

Re: Wine

Don’t panic! We are in Spain and it’s very different here.

Recommended weekly units for men are 34 compared to 14 in the UK. Women are on 22 rather than 14.

Just don’t drink any British Wine and you should be fine!

Re: Renta 2017

Annuities also seem to be a problem with some gestors who don’t seem to understand the situation, which is odd as they are fairly common in Spain. You were lucky to find one that did understand. I have posted before about the fact that the people in the tax office have very limited understanding of ...

Re: Applying for Residency

There are two ways of avoiding CGT (anywhere, including Andalucia). The first is to reinvest the sale proceeds in another permanent residence or if you are over 65 there is a total exemption. In both cases you must have owned the home for 3 years and be a tax resident.

Possibly, but nothing works better than a proper tax declaration and it is no more difficult to complete. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Form 030 just went into the bin!

Re: Applying for Residency

The tax office really are not interested in accepting zero declarations. I have some friends who have a very small income and live on a camp site in a mobile home. They read in one of the English newspapers that it was important to submit at least one tax declarations to ensure that they are treated...

It's going to be pretty cold up there and there is a lot of snow around because of the recent rain. That's going to have a big effect and could explain the difference. Down on the coast the wind is usually coming off the sea which is relatively warm. When we get a North wind off the mountains it get...
