Re: Rodents

Happened to me a couple of times. Firstime a rat got shut inside the car. Made it's way along a wiring conduit till it reached under the fuse box, and absolutely decimated all the cabling. Had it grua'd to Simon in Velez who did a magnificent job of figuring out the mess and restoring it all to work...

Re: PICKING UP PEOPLE AT MALAGA AIRPORT

'cos crushing cars is fun... Carpark was busy last night, more packed than I have ever seen it, in fact we had to go up to level 3 to find a space. Wierd since the terminal was pretty much deserted. I'd reckon that folks parked there and caught a cab to the fair ground for fun and games. Probably a ...

Re: PICKING UP PEOPLE AT MALAGA AIRPORT

Went to the airport to pick up my daughter and grandkids last night. Arrived around midnight and there were dozens of cars parked along the approach road to the car park. Plus of course there are loads of people milling around in the road loading cases and people into these cars . There were so many...

Re: ITV, Algarrobo

I did read somewhere that it had recently changed and you can get up to 1 month added. To be honest I didn't look at the sticker that closely to check the new expiry date. As I mentioned August is the worst month for the Merc to be ITV'd as it is the only time that I really have to have the big car ...

Re: ITV, Algarrobo

Tried to book an ITV test at Algarrobo yesterday, two weeks ahead of the due date of 25 August. Was surprised that the first available date was 5 September, and that all of August was 'greyed out' as unavailable. Holidays? Training? Refurb? or just Busy? Mine runs out in August and I had the same p...

Re: SMS messages from PC to mobiles

I have used this for years, although admittedly not so much these days.

Simple to use app, phone users can reply to your SMS messages, cheap as chips and your credit never expires.

Re: UK State pension calculation

Me also, 1955 was a good year, however I have lost out on 'only' 1 year. My wife, born in 1957 on the other hand loses out on 6 years and she would have been in receipt of a pension for the last 18 months... Keep an eye on the WASPIs, you never know something may happen in our favour.

Re: UK State pension calculation

Just done my own calculation and the changes in payment age have cost me and my wife the best part of £60,000 in lost payments now that we both have to wait until we are 66. Thoroughly pi55ed off.

Re: Solar heat swimming pool

Most pools here get so hot without any help that heating is not usual. Cooling it down in August might be more useful. Ours gets to 28c pretty quickly (which we find perfect) and 30c is possible but that is getting too hot. Solar bubble covers do work and will raise the temperature significantly. T...

Re: PICKING UP PEOPLE AT MALAGA AIRPORT

Where are the walkways? I went out and across the road and walked alongside the old terminal T2. The whole carparking arrangement still seems to be work in progress. Hopefully I won't need to do anymore drop-offs/collections for some considerable time. Must admit that I don't use the walkways at al...

Re: PICKING UP PEOPLE AT MALAGA AIRPORT

Bit annoying that as if you stay a little more than 15 minutes you also have to pay for the free 15 minutes. Found that out when I dropped my missus off and figured that I would be getting close, possibly slightly overrunning the free 15 minutes. In the other car park, after you enter it at ground l...

I've used smartdnsproxy for a couple of years now and for me it works like a charm. Cheap as chips and on the odd occasion that I have needed it support has been excellent.

Re: Eurona satellite option

Does anyone offer wireless internet up your way? Here, we get 15Mb down and 5Mb up, for €35+iva per month. Unlimited data. IPTV just needs 4Mb down to avoid buffering. Not quite true as it depends whether you want SD, HD, 1080, 4k etc. 4Mb is more than sufficient for SD. However jitter and latency ...

Re: PICKING UP PEOPLE AT MALAGA AIRPORT

Why not just park in the other short term car park, the one almost opposite the old T2. The entrance is next to the rental car return entrance. Picking up my daughter yesterday it cost me 1.5e or thereabouts and no hassle. In the past it has cost as little as 60c. About time to police came and towed...

Re: Importing a car; what's the best order of biz?

Not tricky as I would get my Gestor to do it all, apart from the ITV which would fall to my local garage. I made a decision within a few months of moving here, that is never tangle with be Spanish administration when you can pay someone to fight the fight for me.... I have lived a very frustration f...

Re: Importing a car; what's the best order of biz?

Thanks Sid. Bit more searching after my post and I found these numbers, along with the original price of the car. So I'm getting there.

What I'm missing, and this could be a deal breaker is whether VAT needs to be paid on a car imported from Gib. In the EU but weird tax status.

Re: Importing a car; what's the best order of biz?

The tax office publishes a very long list of all cars with their emissions % and original price. Sid Is this list accessible on-line. I'm contemplating buying a car from a dealer in Gib as it's a good price and low mileage. However Import duty (or registration) may make it not financial worth while...

No alternative recommendations then? There are dozens of parking companies around the airport some of which must have been used by the folks on here.

Re: Solar heat swimming pool

We have a professionally installed solar heating system fitted to our pool, although for a number of reasons it's not in use at the moment. Why do you want a separate pump? Our heating tube is inline with the normal water flow through the main pump. You're probably going to need a lot mor than 200m ...
