Re: DNS SMART DNS

Problem now solved. Oddly, the Fobos roof antenna needed a re-start. This makes no sense, as only the one site was affected.
Methinks something else...

Re: DNS SMART DNS

We have been unable to google/access smartdnsproxy.com (and thus sign in) for the past 48 hours. It seems access to their site is (for us) blocked at the moment. I have had an on-line conversation with them this afternoon, and am now talking with our ISP. Up until not being able to reach their site ...

Re: Hotmail (again)

No, but I’m deluged with a sudden onslaught of Spam in the last few days. It's arriving by the shedload lately, of which about 6 a day are phishing or scams - in the guise of blocked purchases, blocked accounts, abnormal purchase alerts, purchase queries, unusual activity 'info', etc etc. Spelling ...

Re: gota fria this weekend?

Absolute deluge and hail (8mm+), and fork lightning down to ground, yesterday, middle of the day, Sayalonga-Algarrobo area. Good bit of recently excavated hillsides along the Carraspite-Lagos road being washed away, with deluges of mud everywhere. Ford at Lagos not passable, except by Unimog and sim...

Taxis and public transport galore in Spain, no problem.
Some homes even have electricity these days.

Driving licence renewal - medical test

Our driving licences are due for renewal. Previously, the eyesight/reaction test required was done at Clinica Rincon (Nerja). Clinca Rincon now gone, and taken over by Clincas Vithas. Their testing machine in Nerja 'not working' (!), and they and their outfit in Torre del Mar distinctly unhelpful. D...

An electrical wholesaler would provide access to commercial items, as opposed to the lightweight domestic stuff.

Re: Skype New Version 8.3

I got fed up with Skype 8 as well, which I use for sending SMS messages. (I know there are other ways to do this.) Chaotic and unfriendly, and no way to switch off the dreadful Return=Send keystroke, whereby an unfinished text gets sent every time you decide on a new line or paragraph. [If you use S...

Re: Electricity Cables

Yes, that right. Not easy to summarise.
Only safe tack is to read the label, to check whether intended for AC or DC, and what voltage.

It's no wonder the sales assistants in the Lighting section of Leroy Merlin are permanently busy!

Re: Renewing expired ITV

Gerry's right on this.
First matriculation date (or first registration date) can be a bit haphazard, as it may not be properly recorded, or even confused with the manufacturing date! For imported cars, situation is even worse.
Bastidor/VIN always works.

Re: Electricity Cables

Virtually all commercially available LED lights (mains and 12v) are designed to run on AC, and polarity doesn't matter. This is especially true where the LED bulb is designed to fit into a traditional lamp socket, whether bi-pin, bayonet or screw. Only 'component' LEDs and some specialist items such...

Re: Anti Bark Collar

We have just bought a couple similar.
Amazingly, they appear extrordinarily effective: they first beep - short, then at a repeat bark longer, then a longer one + vibrate (like a phone).

Re: Engine Warning Light - Automatic !TV fail???

Groping around in the dark will get you nowhere, and probably lead to more expense. Sensible course of action is to get the fault (list) properly read, and then you'll know what you're dealing with. If you've had years of relatively trouble-free use of the car, then you should expect a few faults to...

Re: Engine Warning Light - Automatic !TV fail???

The record of some faults will be wiped (on some cars) when the battery is disconnected (for a short or long time). Minor faults may not bring on the EML, but if they continue to re-occur, with eventually reach a threshold where the light does come on. Disconnecting the battery (or erasing the fault...

Re: Engine Warning Light - Automatic !TV fail???

No point in removing the bulb - it's one of the warning lamps that the tester will expect to see working, and then extinguish.
You could always ask your Opel workshop to read the fault list (probably about €40?) to see why the light is coming on.

Re: Unknown Embargo on Bank Account

1 - It could be a scam, so be careful. 2 - If in doubt, go to your nearest tax office and ask for confirmation and clarification. I have just had to do this, for an additional IBI sum (almost €200) raised for "arrears" of IBI from 2016-17. Turns out IBI was 'adjusted' (raised), following r...
