Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

Thank you to all of you for the information. My gestor was confused and very apologetic that they hadn't issued the temporary paper immediately so she must not have been aware of the two appointment process. This might seem negligent but I'm probably one of a handful of EU foreigners in this area, s...

Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

Well slight problem with the process here; my gestors dropped the paperwork in to tráfico last week (Wednesday) but tráfico refused to issue the temporary right to drive paperwork. Apparently they are awaiting authorisation but my gestor doesn't know if this means from something/someone here in Spai...

Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

Good spot, alpine. It's a long document; do you know if the proposed 9 month transition will date from 29/3 or from when the legislation comes into effect (whenever that will be)? EDIT: or a 3rd possibility - an individual having a 9 month "transition period" from obtaining residence to e...

Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

Moving back from medical tests to recognition of licences, here's the official Spanish govt's proposed legislation: http://www.lamoncloa.gob.es/consejodeministros/referencias/paginas/2019/refc20190301.aspx#Brexit Autorizaciones y licencias Se reconoce la validez de los permisos de conducción expedid...

Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

Canje = no medical.
Renewal = medical.

Obviously some areas might decide to ignore the regulations. I just sent my licence off with the gestors for the canje here in Castille y Leon yesterday. We'll see how long it takes but she repeatedly mentioned 3 months...

Re: Dual Euro state nationality

There is already the situation in Northern Ireland where an Irish resident of the Province has more rights in some cases as an EU citizen than a British one would. This has caused some complications for dual citizens there (as everyone is entitled to be) such as this woman , so it's not difficult to...

Re: Exchanging UK driving Licence for a Spanish one

Follow-up question that just occurred to me: I passed my UK driving when I was 17, which I think is impossible in Spain. I've just checked the insurance policy that came with my car purchase last year and indeed, they've simply added another year to it. The legal grey area of the policy not matching...

Re: Exchanging UK driving Licence for a Spanish one

It might help if we knew where you are - please put it in your profile. I didn't opt to that as I move around and would forget to update it, but although at the moment I spend most of the year out of Andalucia I do have property there so could do these things in the region if it was advantageous. D...

Re: Exchanging UK driving Licence for a Spanish one

Does anyone know if licences are processed regionally or nationally? I'm wondering if it might be faster in non-tourist areas such as where I'm living at the moment. My gf and I are both thinking we might need to change ours but would like to have at least one 'proper' licence between us in case we ...

Re: Obtaining Spanish passport

Incredible that they accept an A2 level really, I think you need a higher level than that just to understand the citizenship exam! For comparison, the UK and France require B1. *In the European system, A1 is the most basic level recognised. It goes A1,A2,B1,B2,C1 and finally C2 which is considered n...

Re: Getting Spanish Citizenship

Renouncing your citizenship before a Spanish judge does not count and you retain UK citizenship unless you specifically choose to renounce it The UK will issue a certificate of renunciation now so if not already done it may not be long before the Spanish forgo the swearing in front of a judge metho...

Re: Getting Spanish Citizenship

I too have no clue why anyone would want to change citizen status, The brexit thing is not a valid reason because in the future things could change for the worse in Spain so long term there is no gain, if You're British you always will be ! To vote in national elections, to stand for election, to j...

Re: Getting Spanish Citizenship

Taking Spanish citizenship makes no difference to your ability to go back to the UK. The UK does not accept that you have renounced your UK citizenship. Sid That was the case but no longer, I looked into this recently and the advice is clear as day. The UK does accept renunciation and it does affec...

Re: need help with Spanish for ...

That's a good idea. I'm in a UK and a ESP forum for the manufacturer but the car is a new generation model with some substantial changes to previous ones, so no talk of many problems with it at the moment. I suppose I could try and find the right vocab in some other threads about other models though...

Thanks all. It could be road noise, it's very hard to pin it down. Going in for a service soon anyway so will see what happens.

Re: need help with Spanish for ...

Useful! On a similar note, can anyone advise how I would describe a 'crunching' noise I get at low speeds sometimes? It's the sort that a mechanic will find impossible to replicate in their garage! To give an idea of the noise, I have suspected part of the wheel arch scraping the tyre when I turn th...

Re: Has anyone ever modified their residencia details (including nationality)?

Done it today! The was some initial resistance, but after making a few million phone calls, the nice police agent printed a new green residencia card with Irish nationality instead of British. We had some debate over whether Belfast is in the UK or Ireland too, but opted for UK because I have a UK b...
