Re: Buying RHD UK registered car

Personally, I'd avoid the hassle of taking a LHD car back to the UK and just go for one of the many RHD cars advertised on the net by people who have done what we have. We bought a late model RHD Kangoo in the UK which easily fitted our 3 cats, dog and loads of clobber and motored down through Franc...

Re: Are you more sociable in Spain?

Hi Irene. It was actualy very timely that this thread reappeared when it did as my wife and I are due to move out to the campo outside Canillas de Aceituno in July. Your thoughts on expats and "do's" are fascinating. Actually, it has been some of your comments in this and other threads on ...

Re: Malaga car hire.

A quick heads-up about current staffing problems with Centauro who I've used many times in the past without trouble. We arrived last Tuesday at 12.00pm and joined the back of a queue of about 20 people, the front of whom had been waiting over an hour to collect their cars. I had a meeting to get to ...

Yup. I don't know whether I'm more surprised by an agent so openly requesting this or the fact that it still happens.

under-declaring alive and well in 2018?

I recently found a property online that was being advertised by a mainstream agent for sale at a reduced price to cash buyers. My excitement was dampened when, during an email exchange to arrange a viewing, I was told that all bidders needed to accept the vendor's demand that any purchaser agree tha...

Re: Inheritance tax allowance increase in 2018

Re the seven year. A neighbour who did trust planning etc said in reality the 7 seven year rule doest excist because if HMRC thinks the asset was given away with the intent to avoid taxes they can go after you at any time .of course its only relevent if the estate is above the IHT limit anyway. I t...

Re: Inheritance tax allowance increase in 2018

Sid, One more brain-pick! Further to your comments above and on another thread about the potential loss of the new IHT allowance post-Brexit for UK citizens I may have come up with a solution, at least for me, but it may be worth bearing in mind for others in a similar position. If the UK estate I a...

Re: Inheritance tax allowance increase in 2018

Thanks for the responses. Sid: Yes, the inheritance would come from my sole surviving parent so this allowance is relevant. I take your point about the post Brexit uncertainties but this is one of many (see below)! Paddy: My understanding is that this ruling/law applies to ALL EU citizens living in ...

Inheritance tax allowance increase in 2018

We have been planning to make the move to Spain in the near future but have been holding back due to the possibility of having to pay Impuesto sobre Sucesiones on a potential UK inheritance. I have had a rollercoaster of emotions over the last few days! My hopes were raised when I read on here and e...

Re: Do You Spain/Malagacar

We too had a pretty poor experience with Malagacar in July. We arrived quite late in the day and, despite them not being busy, were just casually pointed to the car we were hiring. Even in the dim light of the garage you could see that it was covered in dents and scratches, some quite severe. The co...

Re: Best place for flamenco?

Thank you all for your suggestions. As luck would have it, we came across an authentic flamenco session in a lovely, dimly lit backstreet bar in Jerez de la Frontera. It was a joy to watch as we tried
the various sherries straight from the barrel. Bliss!

Thanks both. Kelipe looks like the sort of place I'm after and has some great reviews. Any other suggestions maybe outside of a large city? Richard

Best place for flamenco?

My partner and I will be touring round Andalucia again for a fortnight this month and I would like her to see a traditional flamenco show. Has anyone got any recommendations for somewhere informal, like a tapas bar, or would we better advised to go for a more touristy (and pricey?) show in, say, Sev...

Re: Bank repossession development in Picena near Cherin?

Hi Jogger, If you Google "bank repossessions Picena" you'll find several adverts and images. Google Earth also shows a weed strewn ghost town. In the meantime I think I've answered my own question. After scouring the internet I finally found one solitary thread about this development from ...

Re: TEFL (teaching English as a first language) course

The two organisations offering TEFL qualifications are Trinity College and Cambridge CELTA, both based in the UK. You should be able to verify any outfit offering their courses by contacting those two direct. They should also be able to give you a list of all schools in Spain offering their courses....

Bank repossession development in Picena near Cherin?

Hello All, This is my first post on this site - it's a fantastic resource for anyone thinking of moving to Andalucia. My partner and I are looking to retire to Andalucia next year and are thinking of buying a small place now to holiday in and rent out before we make the big move. Whilst the most sen...
