Re: Best currency transfer companies for buying property

I have used Revolut for DD and also payments to/from UK bank accounts and accounts across various EU zone countries. They charge zero for transfers and zero spread (no margin, no commissions etc) so you get the wholesale rate that banks use between themselves. They onky downside is their free accoun...

Re: La Renta 2018 UK Rental Income - Tenant Identification

I completed my own Renta online. I filled in the box as 'No Hay' meaning there is none. The declaration was accepted and I paid my tax.

There are lots of countries in the world where there are no identity numbers additionally I cannot force my tenant to give me their I.D. number.

Re: Buying a car in Spain with a UK Address

You will need an address. For Insurance and tax and registration docs etc.

Lots of people own cars here who are not permanent residents, but they do have an address in Spain.

Re: Prepaid debit card - Correos or other

Yes. You can set up direct debits in EUR and GBP. It is not a credit card but a bank account and debit card. Now whether the bill issuer will accept a non Spanish bank account is another question. Again as I said above Spain is the only country I know in the EU that has this practice. It is illegal ...

Re: Prepaid debit card - Correos or other

Second the vote for Revolut. They will deliver it to your house. Just put the app on your phone and follow the instructions It is brilliant. Load immediately using a debit card (Uk or Spanish banks). Suspend card on app when you are not using it for safety. Immediate notification on app when payment...

Re: Paying Renta Tax Bill in Cash at the bank

On a related subject. If I go down the direct debit route and let the Hacienda deduct the amount owing from my bank account in Spain, in one go (not spilt 60/40) 1. What date do they actually deduct the money? 2. Does the account have to be in my name? i.e could I use my wife's bank account (not joi...

Re: cancellable private health insurance for residency application?

My experience getting residency in Madrid was that they accepted international healthcare insurance. My wife had BUPA and I Had Axa PPP. They are both healthcare policies that allow you to live anywhere in the world (they are not travel insurance) . As always it depends who you get at the desk. The ...

Re: Paying Renta Tax Bill in Cash at the bank

Yes I read it on the Renta as well whilst doing my declaration.....but I was seeking people's experience of actually paying in a bank with cash. As you said above you were unsuccessful, which bank did you try?

Re: Paying Renta Tax Bill in Cash at the bank

Thanks All So it seems that like almost everything in Spain...it's suck and see. I have chosen the cash payment option on the last page of Renta. I intend to then go to one of the banks listed that says I can pay the bill in cash. Free at Last and Katy. When were you particular experiences? Also wha...

Paying Renta Tax Bill in Cash at the bank

Does anyone have any experience of walking in to a bank and paying the bill in cash?

I have finished my Renta and want to choose the option to pay at the bank or Caja.

Can I just print out the bill and then go to any bank with cash and pay the bill?

Re: Sabadell Spain to Santander UK

Use Revolut. They charge no transfer fee and the exchange rate is the same as the banks use to exchange between themselves ...i.e the same rate they use for excahngine 100 million.

The rate cannot be better. I am an ex currency trader at a bank so knkw that the rate from Revolut cannot be beaten

“As owning/driving without the owner a non E.S car is illegal as a spanish resident I am beginning to wonder if this is one of those urban myths, as time and again one reads of celebs having cars at their houses all round the globe? Surely owning anything - except something like a gun - should not ...

Re: Having a car to use in UK

Why no just buy a UK car in you own name? In the UK there is no definition of where you live (i,e. you don't have an official address, because there is no ID card). Register the car at your friend/family home address, the insurer is only interested in where the car is kept not where you live....anyw...

Re: Having a car to use in UK

Your Original question was '"Can I drive a UK car on my Spanish licence as a resident of Spain?'" The answer to that is in Spain you cannot. However once the car is back in the UK then go for your life totally legal to drive it.....with the usual Brexit caveat of who knows what the licence...

Re: Having a car to use in UK

I am not sure you are correct https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/vehicles/registration/formalities/faq/index_en.htm I keep a car in Greece, at my summer house there, but I live in Ireland. Can the Greek authorities oblige me to register it in Greece? NO — They can't, since you are not permanently...
