Re: Exhuming Franco

That's true Gordon. I don't take sides because I have Spanish friends across the political spectrum and want to keep them all as friends. The only trouble with all this talk of moving dead people all over the place is the danger of reviving emotions and feelings many people have worked hard at deal...

Re: Solar heat swimming pool

We have a bubble cover. I reckon it raises the temperature 3C or 4C. Our pool (without cover) is usually 20C in April, 25C in May, 28C in June, July and August. Below 25C I remain on the loungers wondering how the heck I used to swim in the North Sea as a child! Hardy, or stupid? Using the solar pum...

Exhuming Franco

I heard from someone today that there are definite pans to exhume Franco from the Valley of the Fallen monstrosity and inter him elsewhere. I have never understood why a Fascist shrine was allowed in the first place. The argument is that it is a memorial to both sides, however that doesn't quite chi...

My Porsche Boxter was every 20,000 miles. Got a Jaguar now and they insist on an annual service.

Re: Car Hire Yellow Spanner

I doubt the car hire companies get the cars serviced anyway. Our last problem was a catalytic converter failing - now that is fun. NOT!

Re: Thinking of buying in Andalucia...

I totally disagree about La Herradura. It is a perfectly normal Spanish town in winter and to say it is a ghost town is absolute rubbish. 90% of the restaurants are open, and those that are closed are usually taking a well earned holiday and they reopen within a few weeks.. Parking in summer can be...

Re: Thinking of buying in Andalucia...

Hmmm. Herradura has a marvellous bay, (and stoney beach with wonderful snorkelling, scuba diving). BUT, it always strikes me as a town of two halves; October to May basically a ghost town. July to September well overcrowded with tourists and nowhere to park. Now that may be the same as a place like ...

Re: SmartyDNS alternative

I use PureVPN installed on iPad then cast to the tv. Sometimes the casting process can be strange but it eventually works. Unfortunately I am with broadband4spain and iplayer got wise to the “uk” IP address they provide - as did itv.

Re: Land registry + legality + mortgages

Many properties in the campo will be too old to have obtained licence of first occupation. Speak to the town hall architect, get everything in writing and employ a knowledgeable local solicitor.

Re: Solar heat swimming pool

I have hundreds of meters of irrigation pipe exposed to the sun for years with no or little degradation. The solar pump I quote delivers 1,300 litres an hour so in 8 hours it will probably heat 20% of the swimming pool water. I reckon the total cost will be under €100, so i’m prepared to experiment....

Re: Malaga car hire.

Just a quick review of interrent car hire in Gatwick. I think they are the budget arm of europcar. Anyway I was really apprehensive as I had read a number of scathing reviews. However I have to say the 5 day hire at 66£ was very good. No argument when I declined their insurance. They simply blocked ...

Casting bbc and itv

I have installed a vpn on my iPad, and can watch iplayer and itvplayer on the iPad perfectly. However when I use chromecast to the tv I can cast itv, but not iplayer - it just freezes on the shot displayed in the programme information screen. I’m guessing iplayer knows the original signal is from th...

If you’ve used them more than three times you get their gold club service which puts you at the front. You have to book direct and not a broker. Worth it though.

Or caught by the Modelo 179 that came in today......the net is closing, bit by bit. “THE SPANISH tax office has tightened its grip on unregistered holiday accommodation rentals. Re: Septic Tank Pumping Out

When we raised the issue of a DaFO we were told we now need an additional tank for the grey water. Wouldn’t bother but we need a lot of work on the entrance drive and without a DaFO - no permit. Anyway we installed the second tank but god knows what people with smaller gardens will do. We are thinki...

Re: Holiday rentals. The law.

Just in case anyone here has registered their rental property and is compliant with the law I have another question. How is the renter’s data (passport number etc) presented to the police? Do I need to have someone on site to obtain signatures and take a paper form to the police or can I submit the ...

Holiday rentals. The law.

Thinking of buying an apartment for holiday rentals. I notice that one of the conditions relates to disabled access. In the case of apartments in our village nearly all are accessed by external steps, and then internal stairs. Would this automatically disqualify them? Ie does there have to be street...
