Re: I'm Just Nipping Inside for a Breath of Fresh Air.

Whilst I have to agree that it was previously my choice whether to go into a smoky pub or not, I am enjoying having a wider choice of places to go now. The worst thing about the smoking ban to me is the numbers gathered at the doors of pubs that don't have a smoking shelter. Apart from having to fig...

Re: I'm Just Nipping Inside for a Breath of Fresh Air.

We rarely used to go in pubs, because of the smoke - again, nothing against smokers, just didn't like going home with clothes and hair smelling of the smoke. We do now go into pubs for meals. On Sat we met up with people in a pub, which apart from the smoke, was very much as it would have been 10 ye...

Well that makes me feel a bit better, stuck here in the cold of York - we had a light dusting of snow at the weekend and it's just been miserable and mostly wet since.

Re: No one want to move to Andalucia - says it all?

Why is it that so many British people who are living in Spain, seem to love pouring scorn on anyone else's dream to join them? Did none of you ever dream? Or have you not been able to make it work so you assume no-one else will?

Re: Am I a 'Grumpy Old Man'.?

Well I am so glad that most members also dislike supermarket checkouts. And as it usually takes me about two minutes to open the top of the plastic carrier bag, I'm already losing before I've started to pack my culinary goodies... A definite trigger for my grumpiness - I just can't get those stupid...

Re: Am I a 'Grumpy Old Man'.?

Of course you're a grumpy old man - and what would the world be without us grumpies? I often wish I had the courage to say something in situations like you encountered. Unfortunately I rarely do but those who have to live with me (OH) or know me well, do bear the brunt of me turning into a grumpy ol...

Re: Dog access ramp for car

Hi Jool, hope you find a reasonably priced one. They seem to be expensive everywhere. If you can't find one, have you thought about trying to make something? We'll probably need one when our Labrador gets older: I'm definitely not lifting him up into the car!!

Re: what plans do you have for xmas?

Unfortunately we'll be in the cold of Yorkshire as we can't get out to Spain this year - OH will be working most of Christmas. But we'll have our 17 year old granddaughter with us for part of the time (she's never had a Xmas without us so far) and hopefully we'll see our 3 yr old granddaughter and o...

That sounds to me like a good bit of advice Gordon. And don't talk about helping out offspring. And just when you think it's all sorted.......... Still, I've always promised them I'd only leave them debts and I'm working quite successfully on that I think.

Re: Crunch..Crunch..Crunch..Crunch..Crunch..Crunch

Well, you could be a hamster, but you'd also have to suffer running round in a silly little wheel and being fed on hamster food. With our planned purchase we decided (probably totally stupid) to ignore as far as possible the ups and downs of the euro, the downs, since we started looking, of the prop...

Re: No Going Back to UK for British Expats ?

From one who is in the process of moving to Spain - or maybe even France ( ), I've found this topic, and the one about speaking Spanish, very interesting. I've said a few times that we're not wanting to leave England because we hate it. We're very happy here and just feel the need for 'someth...

To echo what lots of others have said - go for it. Presumably he already knows your current level of Spanish. The only worry I'd have had for you is Benidorm's comment about his reasons for asking you again - but I'm sure it's one of the first two!!! We'll all look forward to hearing if you e...

Re: I'm new

Hi Irene and welcome. Like others have said, do get driving, bit by bit. I used to love driving then over the last few years, seemed to lose my confidence (nothing to do with anything that happened on the roads) and had driven very little when we'd been over to Spain. Then last month we went to Fran...

I think these differences add to the charm of different countries. Beautifully put! One lesson I learned from my Dad when I was going to France on an exchange visit at the age of 14 -" there's no better or worse, just different." I feel I've benefitted from that advice over the many years...

Re: Nothing Much Unusual Happened

Definitely - I've often noticed the 'slow down' effect of accidents - but how short a time that lasts. Is it because people just block it out or because we all believe 'it can't happen to us'? I've just driven over 2500 miles round France and was lucky enough to see no serious accidents and whilst m...
