Re: tse card

We received application forms for the new cards from the UK a couple of weeks ago ( without asking for them). Haven't received the cards yet but guess we will in time!

Road between Coin and Cassa las Palmas

Our house overlooks the Las Palmas end of this road which is supposed to be under construction. Over the last week all work seems to have stopped and the heavy machinery is no longer in evidence. I wonder if the same is true at the El Gordo end? Is this another case of lack of funds stopping the wor...

Re: Thought you registered your PAYG mobile?

I registered my mobile (orange) a couple of months ago and got a receipt but on Monday I got a message on the phone saying "Your registration failed". The phone is still working however so was it a mistake or should I try to register it again? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Re: Should we take big electric goods to spain??

We brought over a washing machine and a fridge/freezer. The washing machine is still fine after 8 years but the fridge/freezer never coped with the lower voltage here. It ran continuously for a couple of years, costing us a fortune, and then gave up the ghost. We replaced it with one with a dual com...

Re: For ? press 1

I've just thought, I didn't say how I tested it. I 'phoned the British Consulate in Malaga. You just get an endless procession of pre-recorded messages  on their phone so you can test away without risking having to explain to a 'real' person why you are calling

Re: For ? press 1

Hurrah, I've done it. Thanks for all the help. I didn't find any refference to DTML but I found a 'loud' option in 'style' in the settings menu, so I selected that and, lo and behold, it worked :D

Re: For ? press 1

Thanks for that Beach. I have had a good rummage in the settings menu but have not yet found reference to the DTMF tone. Probably me being thick as I don't seem to be able to get my head round all the options. I will continue to rummage but, if all else fails, our son is visiting in Feb. and ...

For ? press 1

Twice recently I have found myself trying to ring a number where you have to press 1 or 2 or whatever for the desired information. On both occasions I have been using a mobile phone and also on both occasions the 'press 1' didn't work. I just kept getting the same message. Is it my phone or is it me...

Christmas turkey

Shopping in Mecadonna on New Years Eve I spotted some small fresh turkeys. Does anyone know if there were any there before Christmas? I always order a turkey from our local Dia. Don't get me wrong they are super turkeys but always at least 5 kilos which is much too big for the two of us, even though...

Re: Usual seasonal carnage

I hate driving in Spain because the Spanish just never seem to look ahead and cannot concieve that anything can go wrong! I saw in the paper that 40 percent of accidents are head on colisions and I can't say I am suprised. How often does one see a driver ovetaking on a blind bend or the brow of a hi...

I knew I had become the 'new poor' when I found myself cutting the edges of Chrismas cards so I could fit them into standard size envelopes. It more than halves the cost of posting.

Re: Pork Pie

I adore pork pies and that one sounds yummy. Did you know that they once did a survey and it showed that the number of people admitting to eating pork pies was about 60 per cent less than the number of pies actually sold. Glad to know that everyone on this forum at least is prepared to admit his wea...

Re: Mrs B's Favourite Cook Book

My favourite cook book is one which contains recipes I have collected over the years. It is actually written in an old 1V form geography book of mine. I must have cut out the pages relevant to 'geog' so that I could write down some of the recipes my dear old aunty from Yorkshire used to bake. These ...

Re: Crime Free Places in Spain.? ..No Chance

We don't lock our doors if we are only going out for a while and it probably isn't necessary to lock up at all. The only thefts we have heard of arround here have been from properties left empty for months and even then it is only small-time stuff. We did once watch a builder removing all the work h...
