Thank you all very much for your responses. Much appreciated. Also nice to see all the familiar names still using this forum and enjoying life in Spain!

Do I have pension contributions in Spain to transfer?

I worked in Spain for several years, 2002 to 2006 and paid into the system (autonomo/self employed). Just looking at my pension contributions in the UK and wondered if my years in Spain would have included pension contributions? I may have a paper showing a payment from my bank for autonomo but don'...

Re: Animal rescue charities

Just bear in mind access to the rescue centre. I know if it was on a steep dirt track, I wouldn't be able to drive but some charities have little second hand shops and I could help out there.

Re: Chances of Work in Costa Del Sol

Wow - some of you did seem a bit short with your responses! I wouldn't take it personally tho as sometimes the written word can appear blunt. Can't knock JWhite and her family for their enthusiasm tho as we came over to Spain full of excitement too. However, I have to be realistic too which can appe...

Re: Chances of Work in Costa Del Sol

I have just accepted a job locally in retail at 16 hours so hope I don't lose out as my OH works full time. I think if you take a job, albeit part time or zero hours contract, you can progress within the company? I was just happy to see all those job adverts tbh as my family lead me to believe there...

Autonomo

I believe when I paid into the system in Spain (I believe it was 245 Euros a month for several years) part of this was paid into a pension scheme? I am also informed I can "transfer" this towards my UK pension contributions. Does anyone know how I do this?

Re: Opportunities in Andalucia

Hi Megan apologies as I don't log on to this forum often enough. I too worked in the UK full time (for over 20 years) prior to leaving for Spain but when we returned in Sept 2009 with £20 left after lending a friend 6,000 euros and they didn't pay it back, paying for deposit on house rental here, bu...

Re: Chances of Work in Costa Del Sol

Thanks for the update - I don't log on here often but was curious how your daughter was getting on. Slightly off topic but I went to Glasgow recently to visit my family. They are constantly telling me there is no work up there and that all the "foreigners" have taken the work from them. Th...

Re: Opportunities in Andalucia

Megan - I'm just curious but when we lived in Andalucia (2002 to 2009) I was self employed (autonomo) paying into the system each month for approx 3 years but when we asked for help, we were told from several offices (Malaga and Velez/Torre) that there was nothing available for us? Same when we retu...

Re: Chances of Work in Costa Del Sol

You are right to be concerned with them searching for work as there is so little on the Costa compared to the UK but I guess all we can do is wish them good luck as they will be on their way this week. It would be nice to hear a happy outcome so keep us posted please

Re: Chances of Work in Costa Del Sol

I have a friend who asked my advice on buying property in Bulgaria (personally, I said, I wouldn't) but she bought two, one on the beach and one inland (ski season) AND one apartment in Italy (I need to make a decision quickly, it's the last one available...). She asked my opinion, I said I wouldn't...

Re: Chances of Work in Costa Del Sol

El Cid I haven't just got the t-shirt - got the whole flippin ensemble :lolno: Nimrod you are right - we arrived 2002 and had a few good years where employment was abundant, esp in real estate/property. Luckily all our Spanish family are still employed as they work for the government or as lawyers. ...

Re: Chances of Work in Costa Del Sol

I'd just like to say I am a really optimistic person - I came to Spain with money in the bank and a rental property already purchased in a prime location that was doing really well. We speak Spanish (partner's family all from Malaga) and I found a job within a month of arriving. Couldn't have planne...

Re: Chances of Work in Costa Del Sol

I would advise them not to come if they need to find work however, I do know of one person who made money in Spain - David Beckham :lolno: I think unless you are retiring and on a decent pension, Spain does not work for a family who need to make a living. From our experience, even when employed, you...

Vienna

Hoping to pick the brains of the forum members, many of whom have travelled far and wide! We have booked to go to Vienna for easter weekend and still have to book for the Spanish Riding School show on the easter sunday. Any advice on what tickets to purchase (where's the best place to sit at an affo...
