Re: Buying an old house without basic services

Bit difficult to say as you dont give the size of the house. However, a septic tank would cost around 5k - 6k. Just to supply and connect an electric meter will be around 1k, this excludes the necessary wiring from the nearest supply box to the house. I would suggest you get a local builder to take ...

I did it last November, and it is as Free at Last says, except that we only needed an up to date Padron to change the address.

Re: Community meetings

If your community is registered under the Horizontal Property Act ( Ley de Propiadad Horizontal ) you do not have to notify the community of your intention to sell unless it is stipulated within your community bylaws ( unlikely). However, you do need to notify the community administrator as to who t...

Re: Official documentation of reaching pension age

U should be dealing with INSS, not DWP. You're resident in Spain and presumeably if you followed correct procedure u claimed your UK pension via INSS. I have been resident in Spain for the last 24 years and last April reached the pension age of 65. I had paid 30 years contributions in the UK and 15...

Re: Official documentation of reaching pension age

That's correct, provided you have not worked in and or are claiming a Spanish pension Slight change on this. Unlike a UK pension, you cannot apply for your Spanish pension before you reach pensionable age. I applied for my UK pension 4 months before my birthday, which was duly awarded, and then on ...

Re: fee-free bank account

Cajamar have an account called Wefferent, whatever that means, and this account is free providing that you do all your banking either online or at ATMs'. If you go into the bank and ask them to carry out a transaction, there is a charge of 5 Euros.

Re: Tax Advice - Someone must know

Just a slight sidetrack on this subject, if you are living in Spain but earning your salary in the UK, paying your UK and Spanish tax under the double taxation system, are you able to join the Autonomo in Spain for things like health cover and Spanish pension contributions ?

Bats

I have just noticed for the first time a bat flying around my property. Having watched it carefully, it seems to be " nesting" or whatever it is they do, in some old brickwork in an adjacent building. I have two questions which I hope someone can answer, firstly, are they protected here in...

Re: Water tank (again)

I would think very carefully about connecting 100% to Competa mains water supply. Having lived in that area for over 20 years, I can guarantee that you will be without mains water during certain times of the year. In some cases, for a few days. This is because the town water also supplies many campo...

Re: Linea Directa

It has always been an annual "sport" of trying to get the best quote for car insurance, playing one company off against another, and trying to compare the different conditions they apply to each policy. However, do cant realy compare until you actualy need to claim. Let me tell you quickly...

Re: Car Hire Urgently Needed In Velez Malaga area

I am in a similar situation, having to hire a car for 4 weeks whilst mine is repaired following an accident. I hired a car from RecordGo, a Citroen Berlingo, 260 euros for 4 weeks including their full insurance package. I looked at the other insurance option with a third party insurance company, whi...

Re: Changing Banks

Hi Gerry, thanks for the response. I currently have accounts with La Caixa and Cajamar, La Caixa for 6 years and Cajamar for nearly 20 years. Unfortunately La Caixa has developed a habit of taking random payments from the account, only small amounts, but annoying, and whilst they are rectified follo...

Changing Banks

Apologies if this has been covered before, but I would like some advice on changing Spanish bank accounts. I understand that in the UK it is a fairly simple process, with all regular transactions and DD's changed automaticaly. Is it the same here in Spain, or do you need to change all these things y...

This is normal practice, and yes, your bank will charge for each cheque. Normaly between 40 - 60 Euros each, depending on how well you get on with your bank manager.
