Re: log burner Vs. Open fire

Does the log-burner have to be unconcealed to get the benefit of the heat. I mean is it best to have it 'Free Standing', or do they work just as well set in an open fireplace? It is definitely more efficient to have your log burner free-standing as it throws out the heat at the sides and top as wel...

Re: House and Animal Sit in Andalucian Farmhouse in Almeria

Wouldn't most experienced house sitters/pet carers (i.e. those you can trust rather than some numpty just looking for a free holiday who might trash the place) expect a fee, not just free accommodation??? I do know of a responsible person who is extremely experienced with animals who may be interest...

Re: How do you get medical care if not working?

...and so it is too good to be true! Doesn't matter how many months/years you have been paying autonomo then, you still only get 3 months... Ironic that it is cheaper to have private healthcare than voluntarily pay into the public heathcare system, which I would prefer to do and had been doing on pr...

  . So sorry to laugh at your misfortune but loved the curses! I count myself a feminist but on a pragmatic level am more than willing to take advantage of the limited brain power of the nearest man when I need a hand - its amazing what a bit of leg and a helpless smile can do (oops better...

Re: URGENT - can anyone help please?

You must worry so about your father, very glad it turned out to be nothing but there is always the risk it may not be next time...so I do hope he registers and gets himself sorted for your sake as much as his! The helicopterio sanitarias scheme looks fantastic - wish it operated as far as the Antequ...

Re: How do you get medical care if not working?

Zofia, I am shortly to be in a similar-ish situation, I have been an autonomo, paying my dues for the last 15 months, even though I have had no work during that period. Pre-autonomo, I got 18 months cover on the E106, calculated on my contributions in the UK (did not seem much for nearly 20 years' w...

Re: Does anyone have pet insurance?

Yes you did, Pink Lady, obviously the price has risen since then and you are enjoying the benefit of the fixed premium for life deal with protectapet. There were so many exclusions in their policy tho I think i will opt for Ibex as this is better value at the moment - would be just our luck she need...

Re: Painting walls

Presumably if you seal the inside of external walls of a detached house with PVA prior to painting its ok as the moisture can escape through the outside? Unless you a have an impermeable render outside perhaps :? I am all for breathability and going with traditional methods but not damp internal wal...

Re: Does anyone have pet insurance?

Update on costs of pet insurance for dogs 8-12wks to 10 years old for those interested: Both of the following exclude routine health and dental work; vaccinations or illness caused by the lack of vaccinations (e.g. distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, rabies, parvovirus); pre-existing conditions; co...

Re: Does anyone have pet insurance?

Thanks for the tips - yes, its tricky weighing up the pros and cons of to have or have not...especially when you take into consideration all the exclusions. Take my Perro de Agua's recent accident (see above). So far has cost us €30 for emergency consultation, injection of hydrocortizone and follow-...

Re: Puppy Training

I also had lessons with Chris, the female british trainer, and her obedience and lead training excercises definitely helped. Even a short course of, say, 6 lessons would set you up and give you the tools and the confidence to take control!

Does anyone have pet insurance?

A scary incident recently has left us thinking about insuring our Spanish Water Dog, does anyone have or could recommend any particular insurers? Our girl dived into a fast flowing river and got stuck on some rocks - having got her out she seemed fine but a few hours later she was paralysed from the...

Re: Can you offer a loving home to a Spanish Water Dog?

No takers for a Spanish Water Dog then? :( I knew the chances were pretty poor but these pair are so lovely, I thought I would help out some friends by posting this, in the faint hope someone out there would succumb... I would love to take one myself as a companion for our own dear darling but my OH...

Re: Started Planting yet ?

Have got the garlic planted, having just dragged myself out of hibernation now the festive season is well and truly over. Our November-planted aquadulce broad beans (usually gives us a good early crop in Spring) have fallen victim to the recent severe frosts/snow up here so won't be planting anythin...

Can you offer a loving home to a Spanish Water Dog?

Koda is a handsome 4-yr old honey-coloured male Spanish Water Dog who needs a caring, gentle home. He would suit an all-female household or an active retired couple with no other dogs (or perhaps just one calm one) and an unthreataning husband!! The reason being he is quite shy and scared of men, so...

Re: Building Costs

You get what you pay for recession or no - but what really irritates me is when you are paying by the hour and they spin out half a days work into a days work because they don't have enough other work - so you end up paying more than you should unless you really know your stuff and can argue success...
