Re: interesting article

it does seem that spain has shot itself in the foot with this new asset declaration requirement, given the rich will have it all tucked away safely and as always it's just an extra worry for those who have worked hard for what little they have but the UK is just as bad if not worse so not sure these...

Re: Are you more sociable in Spain?

Definitely, life seems to be much more in the street, mainly because of the weather I guess. When I'm in Spain I stay in La Linea with family and there is a very active local Spanish community there. Of course it helps if you can speak Spanish but lots of people can also speak English. Also there ar...

Re: special licence for driving a minibus

thanks for the info Enrique, I don't think I have, so it sounds like something I will need to get in Spain, I used to drive a minibus here in the UK but I think the rules have changed since then

special licence for driving a minibus

Hi all Just wondering whether you need a special licence to drive a minibus in Spain? I'm finally making the move to Spain in the autumn and it's been a dream of mine to start a walking tour company. I'm now starting to think more seriously about the details re licences, insurance, equipment etc. An...

Re: hearing aid

no, it comes with 5 different sizes of domes to fit into the ear and tubing to attach to the device which you cut down to size, it was very straight forward to fit - I would put a link here to the site but I don't think I can according to forum rules.

Re: hearing aid

yes and we had to confirm that it was for personal use only and not resale. We're very pleased with the savings and so far after running a few tests my mum's hearing ability is very much improved. We'll see how it goes over the next few weeks.

Re: hearing aid

thanks Rafiki - in total we had to pay an additional 67 euros which was made up of 10% IVA on purchase costs of 270 euros and additional inspection and processing costs, originally my mum was quoted 3600 for the two devices (which included the loan costs paying over 2 years) so it is a massive saving

hearing aid

Just to give an update on the hearing aids I bought for my mum from the US online (at a fraction of the cost that she was being quoted here in a clinic) - they have just arrived! having taken more than 2 months to go through Spanish customs - so be warned if you want them in a hurry, but well worth ...

import duties

Hi - I've just ordered a hearing aid for my mum online from the US but forgot about import duties - does anyone know if I will need to pay any for this sort of device? I do think that there is a bit of a scam going on with hearing aids not just here but everywhere, so many older people are unable to...

Re: Are you thinking of selling up !

Where people feel happy/comfortable is mostly an individual thing, however there are some objective realities that impact on whether you are happy somewhere or not, I think I would probably agree with lady muck re UK although I still choose to live there on and off (in London), I'm in my 50s and sti...

cruise from Gibraltar

Hi - just wondering whether anyone know if you can buy a cruise holiday starting from Gibraltar, my mum lives in La Linea and I want to take her on a cruise next year round the med, it would be really convenient if we could board at Gibraltar. I've looked at a lot of the cruise websites but they all...

Re: Repossessions in the Sun - BBC Radio 4

maybe the media in the uk should bear some of the responsibility given the number of 'your place in the sun' type programmes peddling false dreams, yes of course these people are somewhat naive also but they are not the only ones to blame, the media, banks making it too easy to get mortgages and the...

Canyoning in El Colmenar

Hi, I'm planning a trip in mid September to Montejaque and would really like to do some canyoning along the river from El Colmenar to Cortes. Does anyone know if there are organised groups/courses that would do this?
