Re: Snake on Bougainvillea

Hardly dare tell you about me removing a smallish snake from a swimming pool. I copied a method I had seen on tv. String down a pipe and back up to leave a loop. Gently held the snake behind the head to avoid slicing it off. The snake saw a dark hole to escape into - the pipe.

Re: Snake on Bougainvillea

Yes been there too with the dog investigating “something”. They are long. Haven't seen one for 18 months. Not a fan of snakes. A neighbour had a pair of possibly whip snakes drop on them from overhead grapevines while eating on their patio. They thought they were coupling.

Re: Shingles Vaccination

Thanks for that. I had a close friend , same age, die from pneumonia and sepsis in April. Not sure a prior vaccination would have helped. TOH had shingles on her face last year. It was horrible. You have my sympathy. Our local witchdoctor said she could cure or alleviate it by flicking gunpowder ont...

Re: Bilbao ferry/overnight stay. Any tips please?

Oops. Hotel Larranaga. Nice family run place. Good for an overnight en route. No other bars or restaurants nearby. We had a pre dinner walk around the industrial units and wood yards that abound in the area. Somewhere in San Sebastion or elsewhere with nicer surroundings might be more appropriate.

Re: Bilbao ferry/overnight stay. Any tips please?

DA. Hope you have a good trip. I would be interested in your experience in Bilbao after the event. We were due to spend May in Leon , picos de Europa and Bilbao. Family events overtook us and we drove back to Scotland again. Have done 18k km so far this year. On the way back we stayed in a lovely pl...

Re: Speed camera map

1bassleft. Good news. The paying process is very easy for the French fine. The website is http://www.amendes.gouv.fr Multi languages including English. All you need from your son is your unique 14 digit number and 2 digit code on the payment slip at the bottom of the orange coloured A4 sheet. When y...

Re: Van or towbar and trailer?

I would go the trailer route provided you have the space to keep it. Noting the 550 kg towing limit, I would go for a 200 long. Less trips , more volume. Ever seen a loaded trailer being weighed? Not that I am promoting law breaking . Trailer is easier to clean out too after garden waste. Then you h...

Re: Granada City Traffic Fine

Good question. I guess you could tackle the system and get it annulled . We had success with getting our Dart crossing late payment fine quashed. I suspect most people just capitulate and pay. We got a bus lane infringement fine in Granada a few years back outside Corte Ingles going into the undergr...

Does that app cover France too?

I managed to get clocked doing 92 in an 80 earlier this month. Only took two weeks to get the fine too. Very efficient.

I will give that Lidl rose a go. Just come back from UK and been consuming Gallo rose. Very nice and not horribly acidic like most Spanish offerings.

Re: Tile on Tile adhesives

We followed advice from our builders merchants and used swimming pool tile adhesive. Porcelanico Capacer by the Capa company. About six euros a 25kg sack. We cleaned the tiles surface beforehand and also brushed with PVA solution beforehand. Bit of belts and braces. All the reputable firms like Webe...

Re: Aspirin

This may well be part of a tightening up of rules on painkillers and other drugs which people had come to regard as everyday consumables. This was tied up to changes in what you could buy over the counter at chemists. The rationale being to have you visit the doctor to confirm you needed what you pr...

Good idea, It will hopefully be Sunday so less busy. Thanks. Costakid. They chased us and we had paid albeit late. Plus the lorry driver. The paperwork is from Dart and as I said all in Spanish. They seem very organised apart from putting someone elses paperwork in with ours and not being interested...

Dart charge for expat users

We used this crossing in early January and only managed to pay it an hour over the time lmit. The fine appeared in our mail, all in Spanish, today. Along with a fine for a lorry driver in San Sebastion. He is presumably blissfully unaware! We spoke to Dart on the phone and have submitted a claim to ...

Re: New here

Andalucia is a very big place with many different climates. The climate here is very different from the UK. We too are keen gardeners. Germinating seeds is difficult for us. You find baby plants for sale. Bunches of bare rooted tomato plants are a good example. My tip would be to grow what locals gr...
