Re: Illegal Wells ( pozos)

I agree with Costakid. I have posted many times on how many illegal wells are being drilled. Regardless we are foreigners here even if you were here for sixty years. They could easily make life difficult for you. Ignore it. Instead foster relations. We dont pay a yearly fee for our well which is leg...

Voting in the Spanish election in April

Will we resident expats be allowed to vote?

If so what is the cut off for checking you are registered please?

Slightly wider question . What will we be able to vote in?

Re: Waste disposal

That story about the 2nd hand bed made me really laugh.

Last month, my brother in Yorkshire got their old washing machine outside the house - down the side of the house past two cars. Within twenty minutes it had “gone”. None of the neighbours saw anything! No need to pay Currys £15 disposal charge.

Re: Waste disposal

Never seen a charity shop in Spain but then whenever we go to “ civilisation” in Spain they aren't high on our must see.

We are going to have a clear out this year so might look for one. Any names of shops for an internet search? Any in Fuengirola?

Re: Buying an old house without basic services

You might encounter a lot of inertia to overcome trying to get outbuildings, animal sheds classified as dwellings. You are right about money pit. Even doing the work yourself. In our area, the Spanish have migrated to marble palaces in towns or villages where they have all services, shops and decent...

Re: Living Permanently in a Mobile Home ?

Saydo park near antequera has been shown on chan 5 brits in the sun for several episodes. Its abit hard going typical trashy chan 5 but might be worth a look to get an idea of such parks A few years back, we had a walk around that mobile home park. Whilst it isn't for us, I could see a lot of advan...

Re: Solar powered borehole water pump

A spanish friend had one recently drilled , lined, equipped with pump, tubing, cable, rudimentary control panel plus several solar panels mounted on a crude metal tripod . He proudly proclaimed it was only 4000 euros but of course that might have been 4,999! Additionally it would have included IVA a...

Re: Solar powered borehole water pump

Hmm, i have posted previously on these. I am not a fan ecologically as there is only so much ground water. In our area olive farmers are sucking the aquifers dry with impunity from mostly illegal boreholes. From a practical point of view , if water is at about 30 to 40 meters you should be able to d...

Re: Gestor for matriculation in Jerez/Cadiz

On the plus side your car will be a known entity. Secondhand prices are high in Spain. We gave up buying in Spain. Dearth of well specced S/H cars ( probably due to the recession) , all with dubious service history and accident history and high kilometerage . In the last twenty days we have done 170...

Still is in our village. Only women can hold and use a paint brush.

Man present? Then he drives regardless of the fact he has been drinking. Women dont drink, at least in public

Re: Boy who fell into a borehole

It will be a miracle if the lad is recovered alive. How you feel for the parents. Last year there was a spate of bore hole drilling in our area ( more cost effective I guess) . I remember one guy prepared to go to 100 metres but added another 30 and it was predictably still dry. The mess down the hi...

Re: Boy who fell into a borehole

I am out of the country in the land of milk and honey at the moment so cant see anything on tv about the recovery.

Found an article on Sur in English whish says it was an unlined exploratory borehole. They got a robot down 78 metres . Two years old.

Re: Boy who fell into a borehole

Terrible for the child. Lets hope for a successful rescue. We have covered two disused bore holes on neighbours land. They are too small for a child but an animal or a pet would have trouble. I know of two abandoned old fashioned wells ( throw a bucket on rope type) that are just covered with a mat ...

Re: olives

Good article, Sid - detailed explanation there. Our neighbour does his own olive oil and tries to do the crushing within the 24 hours recommended after picking, but sometimes it can get to 48 hours as he tends to pick while the weather is good and then process as and when he has enough for a big ba...

Part 2 Navigated inner Rouen fine. Done it times. Saw Esso diesel at 132 cents but passed it by. Nearer Montrieul it was clear we needed yet more fuel so next motorway services. 165 cents. Got enough to get to Ashford with certainty. Good supermarket there just off the motorway. Booked online Best W...

Part One. Superb nights sleep at the Hotel Gardenia. Room was as near perfect in design as possible. Smallest niggle was the green light from the LED on heating panel. Just a day driving today on toll roads and motorways. Didnt fancy any sidetrips. Too cold and the days are too short. Having laughed...

Re: 2018 road trip to the Casa. More ideas like last year please.

Family troubles - old age funeral. So we are off to the UK. Thought I would append to this thread. I was a bit dubious about travelling north on New Years day. It has proved to be a mixed blessing. Madrid was the ultimate doddle. Later in the evening “ empty roads” was a feature on the TV news. Howe...
