Re: 20 Shades of Green.......

Two things weather wise that we have NOT missed since leaving Spain are- The dreadful summer heat (we seemed to hibernate from June onwards!) The freezing house where we struggled to keep warm during Dec - Feb. Before moving to Spain we never owned an electric blanket. Brought it back but have never...

Re: travel from uk to malaga

If you take a look at the web site mentioned it will be come clear which overnight option suits you. Basically there are two trains daily from Paris to Barcelona so it depends which time train you take. The morning train from Paris leaves at 10.07 which means staying the previous evening in Paris. T...

Re: travel from uk to malaga

When we lived in Spain we travelled to and from the U.K. by train many times and thoroughly enjoyed it. Far more civilised than modern day air travel! Admittedly more expensive and a much slower journey but if you accept those constraints, well worth it. Take a look at the “man in seat 61” web site,...

Re: Spain isnt cheap

We have been back in the U.K. now for almost three years and the comparative costs really play no part in our daily lives. It seems rather pointless in trying to make comparisons - you pay whatever it costs in the country you choose to live in! Making comparisons based on a short holiday to either C...

Re: Changing Spanish license to a UK one

Miro, yes I was surprised by car insurance in Spain even if it included breakdown cover. Water rates are higher here I agree but then we get an uninterrupted supply that you can drink from the tap so, a price well worth paying! Eating out is something we chose not to do regularly here, we do it only...

I thought the day restriction only applies if you use a bank other than your own? I banked with CajaSur and, like Gerry, could pay any bill on any day/time they were open.

Yes. Liverpool Victoria took over Frizzels who offer insurance policies for Civil Servants (including retirees) as well as other Public Service employees.

Re: Changing Spanish license to a UK one

I was insured with Linea Directa in Spain. When I got back to the UK and bought a new car I insured it with the same Insurer (Frizzels LV) that I was with 10 years previously before moving to Spain. I never asked for a NCB certificate from Linea Directa ( never thought about it) but just told Frizze...

Re: Weather

elusive, not sure where "back home" is for you but, down here in the South East UK we have had a pretty reasonable summer. We had two very hot periods back in late May and late June when the temps were in the low 30s which is rather unpleasant when we are not really equipped for such extre...

Re: Why Do People Pack Up and Leave Their Family To live In Spain ?

After my retirement in 2002 we decided we no longer needed to live in London so we spent a while contemplating where to move to. We fancied somewhere with a mild climate. Having worked in Australia for three years in the late sixties and really enjoyed our time there we wondered whether Australia co...

Re: Leaving Andalucia....

Miro, we left in Dec 2014 and Endesa are still haggling over bills they allege are outstanding! It took them a year to explain why invoices had not been presented to the tenants of our house over there. Never got an explanation but finally settled the matter last month! Surprise, surprise, this week...

Re: water shortage

The AVE and Motorways were mostly paid for by the EU, i.e.Germany and the UK (the biggest contributors!). That money now goes to the Eastern members and, with the future loss of the UK contributions the chance of Spain getting much money for massive water transfer infrastructures must be pretty zero!

Re: procedure for selling a used car

If you decide to re-register in the UK there will be fees to pay here for that and, the car will have to conform to U.K. Vehicle Regs. The speedo will have to be calibrated in mph, headlights will require permanent adjustment (not the temporary sticky tape tourists use) etc.

Re: How Many Years of My Life Will I Be Wasted?

Miro, when we left at the end of 2014 and I no longer needed a Spanish mobile, I notified Orange by e-mail two months beforehand. They said my contract did not expire until a month after our leaving date, fair enough, and I agreed to pay for that period although I ceased to use the phone the day we ...

I suppose the answer is to have an account with a "proper" bank not some Building Society playing at banking.
