Re: Cooperative living for older people

Cooperative living appeals to me, too, Dave. The older I get, the more I worry about the future. I might be like my dad and stay fit and active when I'm 90..... or I might need some help.

Re: Cooperative living for older people

The 840 euros a year to become a member is out of our reach. Interesting idea though, I do have a look at your website from time to time. .

Re: Looking for a holiday home around Competa, Sedella and Salares

I'm sure everyone thinks the village they live in is The Best but I would urge you to consider Canillas de Aceituno. Far fewer expats in the actual little town, which gives it a much more Spanish feel than Competa. There are plenty in the campo of diferent nationalities though and we have regular ge...

We needed an up to date nota simple when we signed on the register of foreigners over 5 years ago, so there can be times you need one. very quick and easy to obtain.

Re: Getting Residency

Thank you Sid - and Free at Last, I'm pleased you've had no problems but I think we'll just stay as we are, I'm reassured by Sid's comments.

Happy Christmas to all the members of A.Com xx

Re: Getting Residency

We've been resident for over 5 years and because of Brexit have been thinking of going to the police station again in Torre del Mar to make our status permanent. We had a very helpful official at the police station back in 2013 and she got round our financial position by merely asking us to get a co...

I agree, it makes no sense and is very unfair.

Re: Pensions

Katy, Sid, I wouldn't trust the Tories as far as I could throw them and they would like to take this protection down to a double lock, removing the 2.5%. For the time being, even after Brexit, it seems we are safe, though. I've signed the petition, as it is very unfair to pensioners in Can...

Re: Itchy Feet..

I can vouche for Gordon being a collector and not a hoarder as OH and I have been to their lovely home and had a tour! And a wonderful lunch! Your place is perfect for you, with your collections, Gordon - it's such a big house which you need. The work involved in moving would put me off, if I were y...

Re: Itchy Feet..

I have the same thoughts, Gordon! My choices are your 1) and 4) though. Plenty of the things you've written could apply to me, as well. When we moved here, over 6 years ago, the 'novelty' was exhilarating and most of the time (apart from the scary bureaucratic stuff) we absolutely loved it. We still...

UK Bank Accounts

Is this as scary as it sounds? Does it only apply to private pensions, or also state pensions?

Re: Are you more sociable in Spain?

Hi Richard - how nice! I look forward to meeting you both in the near future- I'm sure you're going to love it here. These days, we have Scrabble night once a week, quiz nights every couple of months and there are other 'events'. As for me driving, I have got behind the wheel but only to drive very ...

Re: Joining a Book Club

Thanks for the encouragement, Gordon :) We do have one Spanish member, more are welcome of course. You're right, it's a great way to make friends and also to read books I wouldn't normally have thought of. We've just read the first book in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Not my cup of tea but th...

Re: Joining a Book Club

Thanks, Chrissie :) We've got 2 more via messages on facebook, so only really want 1 or 2 more, we don't want to get too big, total of around 8 would be nice, then if people can't make it for any reason, there's still a nice number at the meetings. Nearly there!

Re: Joining a Book Club

We do have someone joining us from quite a distance. We are a small but perfectly formed group, well worth a little drive once a month :D
