Re: Writing English Will in Spain

I am assuming that everything could change after March. New laws could affect whose wills get recognised where. Depending on your health, you might want to hold off paying for legal advice until our leaders have implemented the will (geddit?) of the people.

Re: Taxation of ETFs and Investment funds in Spain

Pro:In Spain the reinvested dividends on accumulation funds are not taxed until sale, when you are liable for CGT.

Con: One disadvantage of ETF's over mutual funds is that you can't delay CGT by reinvesting sale proceeds in a similar fund.

I enjoy eavesdropping on the locals in Morrisons.

She: "El problema con Richard es que tiene un inferiority complex."
He: "Well there's nothing wrong with that!"
She: "Claro!"

Re: Amazon Echo Dot

The latest version of the app allows you to enter a Spanish address, so asking for a weather report gets you the local version straight away. I don't think it's worth bothering with unless you have a UK account with Prime for the music, though. Otherwise it works perfectly.

Have you checked the numbers on the actual meter, or just on the website? I recently got charged for 5x my actual consumption. The meter showed the correct figures, but a huge surge in consumption that lasted a month appeared on the website. The bill that came two months later corrected the mistake....

Re: Dacia diesel recall - do I go for it?

To follow up on this, I have been advised by a Renault dealer not to have it done. The reasons given were that it will affect performance, can't be reversed and that possibly a less bad version will be offered in the future.

Dacia diesel recall - do I go for it?

I've had a letter from Dacia offering a "free adjustment" to the pollution control systems on my two year old car. When I ordered the car it took several months to arrive as they were switching the production line to produce Euro 6 engines. It very quickly became apparent that these were r...

Rather, the road from Coin to the motorway is open. Very convenient for the airport.

What's the procedure for getting a refund for a Spain-UK flight that was booked with a Spanish credit card? All the advice I've seen is for UK-based customers.

Re: Rolling stones ticket prices

When my friend told me how much he'd paid for tickets to see them in 1989, I was astonished.
HIs reply: "But I'll probably never get another chance."

Re tigers: I wondered where they were all coming from, and then I noticed lots of wriggling larvae in a very small drain in the middle of our patio. One application of bleach and the wriggling has stopped. I had assumed that they were coming from a larger body of water. If you are being attacked, fi...

Yes, the landlord will get the bill, but he's a very nice chap, and I want to give him some useful advice.

Leaking pool filter - fix or replace?

There has long been a accumulation of water in our buried pump housing, but I had never been sure if the water was coming in from the ground or the mechanism itself. I've just kept on bailing it out before it got near the electrics. Recently I have noticed the problem getting worse and, for the firs...

I'm not quite sure what they are actually for. All the blurb I've read seems to be about Californians who like to leave the aircon on for their cat while they are at work. Do they serve any great purpose while there are people at home?

Re: Prevision Medica forms

The dental cover is a waste of money. It just gives you "discounts" on dentists' regular prices. Ours took a look at the post-discount prices and said that she charges less than that for uninsured patients.

Best caves open to public?

I've been entrusted with organising a family visit to a cave. Can anyone recommend (or warn me against) any in Malaga? I'm thinking of Nerja, Rincon de la Victoria, la Pileta and Ardales. Have I missed some?

Re: How does Spain deal with UK (tax free) gambling profits?

The Spanish rules are a mess. I read of a woman who was facing a tax bill on her million euros of gambling earnings. Hacienda will not take into account the 999,000 euros of losses that she made in the same period.
