Re: Why is the ground around Olive trees kept bare ?

Another point for working the ground round the olive trees is to disturb the grubs that may have escaped into the ground from fallen olives. Also round here the groves are systematically ploughed all round the edges, particularly on road-sides or forest-sides as a fire break. There are still some wh...

Re: Fire pit permission?

Ricasso - ignore the TdA and CK comments - though I must admit I had to read your post twice to figure it out! You should be OK with your fire bowl - suggest you keep a hose pipe ready just in case, and a lot depends on how close vegetation is - overhanging vines/ trellises, etc ... As we live withi...

Re: Well licence/registration

NZ - so the property is connected to the mains?? OK for the house then. The well, not registered, was used to irrigate the garden and top up the pool - is now dry and the pump disconnected .... problem. You need to find out if it is dry - therefore redundant until, and it is a big if once a well has...

Re: Seville-So Many Histories...

Mrs G loves the small ceramic plates so beautifully and colourfully glazed which are available in the giftee shopees - hard-pressed to resist every time she shows various tourists from family and friends doing the Tour of Sevilla. There is some tourist tat there but there are some lovely things too....

Re: Tax residency

If you buy your next habitual residence BEFORE you sell your previous one, can you then claim to put the proceeds of the previous one into the purchase of your next one, having had to use other funds for that purchase initially ............... probably not??!!

Re: Registration of S1 form

IMHO AkoAko, I think you would be wise to take your S1 to your local INSS social security office and ask them. You dont need to worry about the 2012 ruling as you have your S1 already. You are 65, so of pensionable age in Spain, you have your S1 which is all you need to get signed on as a pensioner ...

Well - now I see that Mr Rajoy has got his approval to go for Home Rule, and Mr Puigdemont has gone for UDI - keep your heads down as this could turn nasty.

wrinkly olives

I seem to remember not too long ago on here we were talking about wrinkly olives .... cant find the link - must be looking in the wrong place ... Anyway, our olives in spite of regular watering had the most nasty wrinkled and dried up fruit that were turning black early and the green ones were also ...

Re: Do I have pension contributions in Spain to transfer?

If you have different retirement ages in different countries, then you apply, still through the last country worked in, for the country you are first eligible in - eg last worked in Spain, apply through INSS via your local office (by post if you are not currently in Spain), using the online form (pd...

Re: Do I have pension contributions in Spain to transfer?

Although the stated minimum number of years worked in Spain to qualify for a spanish pension is 10 years, in actual fact as an EU citizen, if you have worked in other EU countries the years worked there count towards the requirement in Spain. You should apply for your pensions via the Social Securit...

Pamela 1 said - and if we get some day time sunshine than that will be a bonus..

And remember that when the sun does come out it may be surprisingly WARM. You may well not have a drop of rain and have a wonderful time. Hope all goes well for the family reunion.

Re: changing status of Bank account to non-resident

All interesting stuff. We will look at it all again if and when we get a move organised. Probably keep on the spanish on-line account for a short while as Miro suggests, and meanwhile get local account in the new country, and shift everything out of Spain thereafter.

Re: Fiscal representative

S-Dave - if you need recommendations or local knowledge, it would be a good thing to let us know roughly where your involvement is in Spain/Andalucia.
Is it just for taxation - can you do it on line?
Do you need a local Gestor to deal with your quarterly tax on non-resident-owned property?

Re: changing status of Bank account to non-resident

Thanks all for interesting and useful points of view - as I said it is all very much in the planning stage at the moment, but if there is one thing we have learned in Spain, it is that it is better to be forearmed and forewarned, than crying over spilt milk! So with that mixed metaphor ... thanks ag...

Re: Compact scented plant needed

You know - for your BIG oleanders you really can chop them down hard and they will come back up from 6-12 inches from ground level and then you can keep better control of them - will look a fright to begin with but will soon come back. I think El Cid is the expert on roses round here - but we find t...

Re: Seville

I agree with Flexo on this one - February, particularly the early part of the month tends to be the coldest part of the year. Rain is less likely than anywhere else but still a possibility. You should find the days pleasantly warm, but be prepared to bring layers, that can be peeled off as the day w...
