Re: Bird migration this year

Our bee eaters were heard and seen for the first time this year yesterday, in Huelva province. There are more and more swallows about now, arriving since about 7 to 10 days ago and seem to be starting nesting. Spring has awakened, all of a rush, over the last week!

Re: Inheritance

As I understand it, non EU inheritors have to go with the National rate of tax, rather than where the deceased was resident. The national rate is usually worse than the Comunidad eg Analucia, rate.
Remember that under spanish law it is the inheritor that is taxed, not the estate (as in UK)

Re: Construction info for jobs in Gibraltar? Help!

You may find that in construction or similar in Gibraltar you will have to work with/coordingate/manage spanish workers who come over the border to work in Gibraltar. This is something to bear in mind when applying for jobs ... it would speed up your learning of spanish though!!!

Perhaps sporting gum shields might actually help !! though these are mostly for the front teeth only, and it is the back teeth that cause the damage ... where you would get them in Spain - perhaps Decathlon? or Amazon or try the farmacia Google gives ... https://www.decathlon.es/protector-dental-100...

Re: Communion and confirmation

Communion is usually about 7-8 years old, having studied the catechism, but confirmation is a much more personal thing - a friend here was 16 before doing confirmation, but you do have to fit in with when the bishop comes to town also. Some seem to feel confirmed in their faith earlier than others ....

Re: Driving to Malaga in December

Before you venture off to Portugal you need to be aware of the problems surrounding the payment of tolls on the motorways there. Having a foreign registered car you cannot link into their simpler means of payment on the motorways that are Electronic only, meaning there are not pay booths but they ha...

Re: The rain in Spain

We collect rain water via gutters we installed across the front of the house, into the big paint tubs and store them in the shade for use watering the ornamental garden - you need to have lids on or they become a lovely home for mossie larvae!! With lids on they keep clear for ages. Because of the o...

Elusive - here is a thought for you .... There is a known effect, particularly with people with tenseness, where during sleep the jaw clenches, seriously clenches, and can also grind the back teeth, and this consolidates the tension you already have in your neck, reverberating up into the head in th...

Re: Drive repair in the campo

Check with your local abogado and perhaps also with friendly folk at the town hall as new residents using it as a means of introducing yourself ... ask if perhaps the local authority do repairs from time to time on your road - we were surprised after we moved in and kept our 4x4 vehicle, that they c...

Jenny said : I had not heard about the license until our architect informed us that he had applied for it on our behalf at the end of all the building works. Apparently, you need this if you were to sell the property at a later date? I’m not sure, perhaps someone else can shed some light on it? Jenn...

Re: Calling olive experts..

As to purning - we were in Portugal during the olive harvest season and were fascinated to see how they do theirs in the small campos anyway ... a lot of the branches, and I mean big branches, that have the bulk of the olives on, they just chop off with a chain saw at the main branch and let new gro...

Re: Calling olive experts..

A lot of the ones grown specifically for oil production are smaller than average - remember that it is actually the nut inside the fruit that gives most of the oil (hence milling and grinding them down before pressing) so a higher percentage of nut to flesh gives better oil production. The bigger th...

Re: Calling olive experts..

Really for pickling using the method you are using you need to use the green olives. Pick them when you see a change in texture as they get fat, when they have a sort of bloom on the surface ... you will know they are ready when a few start to turn purple anyway! Usually October into November is the...

Jimmy - a lot may depend on which area you are looking at. In any case, you would be well-advised to deal with a local spanish estate agent (who speaks English if your spanish is not up to it yet - or find yourself an english-speaking lawyer or gestor which you will need anyway) as they will know th...

San Juan Bajo Parking/Tram for Sevilla

I wonder if anyone has used the parking at San Juan (Bajo, not arriba) provided for travel into Sevilla on the tram? I have been looking on the web but most recent I can find is from several years back. Then it was apparently free !!  I am finding that a bit hard to believe, so would ...
