Re: Win 10 "October" update

I had a major update to my windows 10 about 3 weeks ago which may well have been the October update. No problems and done in a short time. And come to think of it, I had a prior warning that an update of a major nature was due about a week before the update came up, so I do think it was the October ...

Re: Just bought a villa, now I need the internet

To OP - you do not say whether you are in/close-to a town, or in the countryside. In Huelva province they are rapidly expanding internet via fibre or via local networks, so it worth asking around - find a local computer shop and start asking in there, or your local town hall who may be encouraging i...

Re: Property in UK, Tax in Spain

The UK tax on the rental property in the UK should also be noted with HRMC as under the Non-Resident in UK tax regime. This way you receive the income tax-not-paid (this is particularly important if you do the letting through an Agent so they can pay it direct gross to you), and we found that once y...

Re: Finding a gestor

I agree with Beachcomber, you really do need to be careful with gestors and abogados - if you find a good one, cultivate him/her and stay with them. If you find you have a bad experience, move on quickly to another. Do try to find personal recommendations. Sorry, we are well west in Huelva so can't ...

Make sure you have suitable fencing as they are expert escape artists, will climb trees and eat all your vegetation - you have been warned! But they are cute!

John - it is not the done thing to put your email address in public view as this is not a secure site - send it to the OP via private message - pm by clicking on his or her name in the right hand column. Re: Has anyone ever modified their residencia details (including nationality)?

Gerry - I think Alpine already has the Irish citizenship, as dual British/Irish now. He wants to change his residencia in Spain to show him as Irish, not British, so that when Brexit happens he will still be an EU citizen, which us Brits will no longer be ... So the same person, with the same reside...

Re: senora

As an aside, for formal addressing, eg official documents, tax returns, simple addressing on envelopes, Don is for Mr, and Doña is for Mrs. Not sure how young girls are addressed on paperwork ... The French have a similar attitude to ladies, as they become of marriageable age, they generally to refe...

Wollie - just the children of a marriage - Well basically it works like this - everyone at birth takes the fathers surname and the mothers surname, and that sticks with them for life - so the next generation takes their fathers surname and their mothers surname, ad infinitum Juan Sanchez Pinto marri...

Re: senora

If you don't know the lady well enough to know if she is married or not, then for a 50+ year old, err on the polite side by using señora. If you know for a fact that she has never married, and she asks you to call her señorita, go ahead. General rule of thumb is for anyone of marriageable age, to us...

Re: speeding up Town halls in Spain

You could go to your catastral office in the town hall and ask politely where they are up to ... they may refer you to the Architect attached to the town hall who processes these things or they may have an on-going file they can refer to. You should have a copy of the sumission from your lawyer, or ...
