Re: senora

Wollie - just the children of a marriage - Well basically it works like this - everyone at birth takes the fathers surname and the mothers surname, and that sticks with them for life - so the next generation takes their fathers surname and their mothers surname, ad infinitum Juan Sanchez Pinto marri...

Re: senora

If you don't know the lady well enough to know if she is married or not, then for a 50+ year old, err on the polite side by using señora. If you know for a fact that she has never married, and she asks you to call her señorita, go ahead. General rule of thumb is for anyone of marriageable age, to us...

Re: speeding up Town halls in Spain

You could go to your catastral office in the town hall and ask politely where they are up to ... they may refer you to the Architect attached to the town hall who processes these things or they may have an on-going file they can refer to. You should have a copy of the sumission from your lawyer, or ...

And now we have an Orange warning from the border to Cadiz - expecting downpours - for tomorrow!!! Not a Gota Fria but a damp squibb moving up from the Canaries!! -We usually send our cast-offs down to them but something has happened to the weather this year and this is one of several episodes, a bi...

Re: Recruiting in malaga?

Go to the local employment office and ask if you can put your offer in through them ... not sure exactly how to go about it, but anyone who is currently umemployed, to continue their status as such, has to "sign on" at the Empleo, and are supposed to do targeted searches online, either at ...

Re: gota fria this weekend?

OliveV - that is indeed very sad news and only reminds us of the work that the bomberos and INFOCA do for us all --- it seems that the weather has got to that side of Sevilla and not made it to us in too much quantity then. We have had several individual days of nonstop rain, but it is clear today, ...

Re: halloween

It is a bit commercial, mainly for the kids to revell a bit in silliness, and to have an arty crafty thing to do in school for the juniors. You may see a lot of pumpkins about, and more activities in the larger towns than in the villages. Do a google search for the towns local to where you are visit...

The rain arrived, as forecast, over here in Huelva about an hour ago ... heavy to begin with, now a steady persistence. Definitely much needed after a very dry summer! Plants are lapping it up!

Well, you made it then - the nightmare bit up through England make us think yet again that we will never move back to the UK! Let us know about the price of beer up there too ... we will stick to good old Cruzcampo! Thanks for the write up - gave us a chuckle as we await the promised rain-storm ... ...

Re: Driving with dogs

Some quick notes for you then the link for you to check out. Travelling in Spain, and also in France, it is obligatory (but not always enforced!!) that dogs travelling in cars should be "safe" in case of accident and should not be a threat or distraction to the driver - basically this mean...

Re: purchase fees

I certainly wouldnt be paying the seller's lawyer anything. The seller pays his own lawyer - you have nothing to do with that! The agents fees should have been negotiated, and if previously agreed, then you may well be in for that charge or half of it, depending. The house price as agreed (when we b...

Re: Water connection costs

Another thing you need to consider is the drainage of your waste waters - grey is general used water, black is WC flushings. Often in rural areas the grey water was left to run off onto the land, or via an open drainage down a hill and hopefully into a river ... and black water was sent within the p...
