Re: Water deposit

I think you're going down the wrong road!! Buy a 1m3 water tank and a pump to pump the water to the house when pressure is low. Total cost for both no more than 300 euros. Obviously the tank gets filled automatically with mains water. U might even be able to put the tank on the roof of your house. V...

Re: Tenant or landlord's name for utilities?

It's more standard practice to put the utilities in the tenant's name. e.g. v easily done with Endesa; just add the tenant's name as a third party through the online system. The landlord retains ownership, the tenant is responsible for paying the bills. Having said that, we'll be renting out our fin...

Re: Artificial Grass

Buy the longest grass available. We have either 35 or 40mm. Put it down years ago and still in perfect condition. Spray with water occasionally and rake stones and leaves out too.

The "short" grass is rubbish and falls apart.

Great call, spanish_lad! It served up directseguros.es (AXA) as the cheapest at a competitive 72 EUR for the details I presented. Of course when I clicked on the web offer link it was busted. Anyway I'll be following up... Saludos Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!! We are currently in a long ru...

Re: Exchanging UK driving Licence for a Spanish one

Go to the DGT website and select the Sede Electronico. There u can consult the state of your application by entering NIE and DOB. No other requirements.

It may shed some light on the issue; e.g. if it says sent by post, you'll know that it's lost, etc.

Re: Elsa - death due to poisoning

Nothing like shoving your head in the sand!! Wake up to the reality. Spaniards don't need an excuse to poison a dog. its a bit of fun for them. They might have had a bad day at the office or their kid said they were scared or something. It's what they do!! Spaniards also suffer from envy and jealous...

Re: Illegal Wells ( pozos)

Totally disagree!! We have a duty to report corruption and dishonesty. By not doing so, you are just as bad as them. Spaniards operate on the premise that I won't tell on you if you don't tell on me. Hence the reason that the country has such a problem. It's never one individual, they're all in it t...

Re: Official documentation of reaching pension age

U should be dealing with INSS, not DWP. You're resident in Spain and presumeably if you followed correct procedure u claimed your UK pension via INSS.

They should be able to produce a certificate of jubilacion.

Your bank plan refers to Seguridad Social in the small print!!

Re: purchase fees

I wouldn't consider it normal! The seller can arrange to pay their own bills.

Alternatively, charge them for the privilege. Make additional deductions from the purchase price for the costs of the cheques to pay their lawyer and estate agent.

Re: Common tourist phrases in bars and cafes

Well, I suggest you keep it simple; The "phrases " you quotes so far are way to verbose and completely unnecessary. e.g. "could you repeat it" - replace with "repeat". one word, nothing more needed. "what would you like" becomes "food" or "drink...

Re: Dental implants

I find dentistry in Spain to be of very poor quality. Unfortunately, its only after a few years of experiencing the work done that a judgement can be made. Always looks wonderful to begin with. Poor quality materials used because they don't expect the guiri to stay in Spain and so they can get away ...

Like it or not, we're all immigrants!!

Expat is only used by people to imply superiority. Comes from a bygone era. Wouldn't want to be associated with black people arriving in Spain via rubber dingy - oh the shame!

Can't u plant oleanders along the boundary (the red ones give off a lovely aroma. Oregano is good also, as I'm sure there are loads other plants to choose from. To stop the barking get one of those sonic alarm thingies. You could also monitor them defecating and set off a high pitched sound from a d...

FFS, only the Brits would concern themselves with such triviality. What planet are these people on!! The majority of Spaniards can barely speak the Spanish language properly. No Spaniard remotely cares about grammar, apart from academics. All that matters is that "I get what I want". That'...

As usual people are being unduely negative. Pitching a tent for an overnight stay is perfectly legal in Spain. It's called bivouacing and is considered acceptable, provided u move on the next day. Tent should not be erected until 19hrs and removed by 07hrs. Or simply, put tent up when getting dark, ...

Before GPS, they used systems that referred to X, Y and Z (altitude). It's easily referenced. Go to the visor in SIGPAC or similar and locate your plot. It'll show the X Yand Z in conjunction with the longitude and latitude. On paper, the boundaries can be different from real life!! A post in the gr...

If a foreigner kills a local, the foreigner goes to jail. If a local kills a foreigner, the local gets an apology for being dragged to court!! The locals will have more "witnesses" than a foreigner, therefore more likely to win a court case. Spaniard versus Spaniard - one of my inlaws went...

People, don't be so negative. Where I live in Canarias, the temp min is 9ºC over winter and that's rare. Mostly min is 12 or 13. I grow all sorts of fruit trees including apple. No problem producing fruit. They may not be huge, but they're good enough for us. Also grow apricot, plum, pear and a mult...
