Re: Illegal Wells ( pozos)

Totally disagree!! We have a duty to report corruption and dishonesty. By not doing so, you are just as bad as them. Spaniards operate on the premise that I won't tell on you if you don't tell on me. Hence the reason that the country has such a problem. It's never one individual, they're all in it t...

Re: Official documentation of reaching pension age

U should be dealing with INSS, not DWP. You're resident in Spain and presumeably if you followed correct procedure u claimed your UK pension via INSS.

They should be able to produce a certificate of jubilacion.

Your bank plan refers to Seguridad Social in the small print!!

Re: purchase fees

I wouldn't consider it normal! The seller can arrange to pay their own bills.

Alternatively, charge them for the privilege. Make additional deductions from the purchase price for the costs of the cheques to pay their lawyer and estate agent.

Re: Common tourist phrases in bars and cafes

Well, I suggest you keep it simple; The "phrases " you quotes so far are way to verbose and completely unnecessary. e.g. "could you repeat it" - replace with "repeat". one word, nothing more needed. "what would you like" becomes "food" or "drink...

Re: Dental implants

I find dentistry in Spain to be of very poor quality. Unfortunately, its only after a few years of experiencing the work done that a judgement can be made. Always looks wonderful to begin with. Poor quality materials used because they don't expect the guiri to stay in Spain and so they can get away ...

Re: “Expats” or “Immigrants”

Like it or not, we're all immigrants!!

Expat is only used by people to imply superiority. Comes from a bygone era. Wouldn't want to be associated with black people arriving in Spain via rubber dingy - oh the shame!

Can't u plant oleanders along the boundary (the red ones give off a lovely aroma. Oregano is good also, as I'm sure there are loads other plants to choose from. To stop the barking get one of those sonic alarm thingies. You could also monitor them defecating and set off a high pitched sound from a d...

Re: "tu" or "su"

FFS, only the Brits would concern themselves with such triviality. What planet are these people on!! The majority of Spaniards can barely speak the Spanish language properly. No Spaniard remotely cares about grammar, apart from academics. All that matters is that "I get what I want". That'...

Re: reduction in OTC at chemists

Jesus, u lot are a sick bunch, lol. I'm nearly 50 and have never had an antibiotic; never been to a doctor in my adult years (except to verify a passport photo). Have only ever used an occasional topical cream for "stuff". It concerns me, as if I ever need to go to hospital I won't have an...

Re: Pitch up a tent

As usual people are being unduely negative. Pitching a tent for an overnight stay is perfectly legal in Spain. It's called bivouacing and is considered acceptable, provided u move on the next day. Tent should not be erected until 19hrs and removed by 07hrs. Or simply, put tent up when getting dark, ...

Re: Land co-ordinates

Before GPS, they used systems that referred to X, Y and Z (altitude). It's easily referenced. Go to the visor in SIGPAC or similar and locate your plot. It'll show the X Yand Z in conjunction with the longitude and latitude. On paper, the boundaries can be different from real life!! A post in the gr...

If a foreigner kills a local, the foreigner goes to jail. If a local kills a foreigner, the local gets an apology for being dragged to court!! The locals will have more "witnesses" than a foreigner, therefore more likely to win a court case. Spaniard versus Spaniard - one of my inlaws went...

Re: Bramley apple trees

People, don't be so negative. Where I live in Canarias, the temp min is 9ºC over winter and that's rare. Mostly min is 12 or 13. I grow all sorts of fruit trees including apple. No problem producing fruit. They may not be huge, but they're good enough for us. Also grow apricot, plum, pear and a mult...

Why not prune them yourself. You can't do any harm. Too many foreigners seek perfection. Give it a go - the "expert" Spaniards won't have any more knowledge than yourself. They just have bigger mouths!!

All 3 of our new vehicles (2 motorbikes bought 2015 and 1 car bought 2017) gave specific advice in the manual on how the vehicles should be driven for the first few hundred kilometres. Unfortunately, none of the dealers mentioned anything. Hence the reason that most people don't realise the importan...

We had a similar situation with our property. A Spaniard will regard every new buyer as an opportunity to screw for money, etc. It doesn't matter how friendly the previous owners are/were with the owner of the strip of land. You are new meat! Unless it's in the escritura about the servidumbre, you W...

Just think of tulips. Same Difference. The fact that it's called a "coin" is the con. It makes people think it's real. It's irrelevant that some people are making "fortunes". Traders (like myself) never reveal our losses. We always have to have people with less knowledge, to make...

We grow..............carpobrotus (yellow and purple); malephora (yellow and reddish); aptenia (red). Drought tolerant but need regular watering; otherwise they don't flower. I've noticed that in our desert conditions lots of carpobrotus have decided to die. Oleanders also need plenty of water to flo...
