Re: Gas to Electricity Conversion

Hello Steve, Good advice from Wicksey and very similar situation to our 'set up'. Personally I would keep the gas hob, much cheaper to run than an electric hob and useful to have 'options'. I've fitted numerous electric heaters myself, not difficult, although it would depend on having a close electr...

Re: Pitch up a tent

John, Apart from the valid comments already mentioned, may I suggest that you have also to consider your personal safety, particularly if you are travelling alone. You do run the risk of being robbed, shot for trespassing etc.,I don't want to spoil your dream of staring at the stars etc., I'm just b...

Re: 2 Lovers and 1 Hater..!

Many Thanks for the recommendations and advice,Much Appreciated ! It would seem that most of the pet treats are by-products from the brewing industry..! And our dogs really enjoy a good old fashioned bone from the local butchers, great for their teeth and usually keeps them amused for the ...

Re: Joining a Book Club

Good Morning Irene, Nice to read about your little book club and what an excellent way to make friends, very important for supporting Expat communities and possibly encouraging some of the Spanish community who are learning English. I hope that your post also inspires expats in other areas to start ...

2 Lovers and 1 Hater..!

We have 3 Podenco rescue dogs and recently , by accident, I gave them each a piece of toast with a small amount of Marmite spread on them... The 2 girls absolutely loved their new treat, but Skippy the big brown dog hated it, spat it out and immediately drank about a gallon of water and then spent m...

Re: Best Practices for Sending Mail Internationally

La Tinotorera, Please let us know the 'outcome' of your 'test' mail... On average my mail out arrives in UK in 4 working days, US 7 to 10 working days, incoming 4-6 days from UK and 5-12 days from the US. I started my first 'mail order' venture in 1969 ( not very successful :( ), and at th...

Re: Thinking of buying in Andalucia...

My comment about Not buying a house in the CAMPO was because the OP stated that their parents do not drive and would possibly be wintering in Spain. I looked at campo houses first, to buy , in the 1980's , but decided it wasn't a good choice for me and family as a permanent home, as a holiday home I...

Re: Best Practices for Sending Mail Internationally

I would only use ' Certificado' ( signed for mail )if you need proof of sending and arrival , it is expensive and can be slower than regular mail, I only use it for documents etc.

Hello Ebyard, Welcome to the Forum.. You're asking a lot of questions in one request....understandable, and I think other members will come back with plenty of tips. It is very difficult to advise/ recommend 'The best places to live etc.), everyone has different views , ideas and requirements...

Re: Best Practices for Sending Mail Internationally

Hello Tintorera, Welcome to the Forum  First I would suggest that you send postcards in an envelope. If you are receiving your mail in Spain from the US in 6-10 days it does prove that Correos is delivering them promptly, going the other way I've always found it slower, but that could be that ...

Good Morning Soleil, Welcome to the Forum.. Letting agents are notorious at not replying and advertised properties are usually long gone. I would also guess that you would be better to ask for a 6 month rental, maybe it will help.! Can I suggest that you contact selling agents with a selectio...

Re: Home Bread Making

I agree with Wicksey and Sid, we are keeping our bread machine to use for special breads and as stated is really good for other uses. I wonder ...does everyone use the cutting machines available in the supermarkets..? I like to cut to different sizes and I always buy at least 1/2 dozen loaves and th...

Re: Buying a property as part of a syndicate

Richard, I understand that you would prefer to be coastal, however you don't have to go very far inland to find a good value house in which you could be the sole owners without compromising your ability to control your destiny ! I do think that owning a property in Spain could be a good move at the ...

Richard,
My advice would be..Forget It...continue renting or go inland and buy a cheap 'bolthole'..

Partnerships are Hardships..... :(

Olive, Yes we also tried the cheesecake...very good and I had not noticed that they no longer have them in stock. Re: Tent on rustic land

Well...Based on my own experiences I don't agree with the 'do it and see what happens', why take the chance ? It isn't a regular camping tent and if you haven't already purchased it you could end with a bit of useless kit and possibly a fine, plus if you 'cross ' the powers that be, you will have put...

Re: Gardening work

Certainly it's not easy to obtain work in Spain as a foreigner, but not impossible, restricted to maybe working for expats if non Spanish speaking. However it would not be wise to expect to get work immediately, so enough money to last a couple of years until work is established would be a common se...
