Re: Thinking of buying in Andalucia...

Thank you Elusive. Based on my experience and observations I feel that it's so important to get the 'location' correct , to suit individuals needs now and in the future. I've watched so many people being mislead into making the wrong choices, and taking the advice of 'friends' and letting ...

Re: Thinking of buying in Andalucia...

Personally I think that it's very difficult to judge and comment on anywhere, not just Spain, without actually living there or at least spending a lot of time in a place, and being able to witness the constantly changing scenario. For instance, my 'village' during the afternoon really looks like a '...

Re: ITV Sticker

Good Morning Lyric, I was told, by a policeman, that the sticker, as you stated, should be placed top right of the windscreen and that any previous stickers should be removed because it can obscure the drivers view..I agree that makes sense. Regards, Gordon

Re: buying a new car now requires registerinng on padron?

I've purchased numerous cars during my time in Spain in three different Provinces and have never been asked for Padron details, however I guess that it really depends on the law interpretation in different places.....nothing changes... :D

Gordon...

La Tintorera, Thank you for publishing the results of your mail shot test, pretty much what I expected, and of course it would depend on destinations in the US, it's such a vast country .! Maybe boring to some but a little more info. on my vintage letter...it was sent on board SS. Europa, sister shi...

James,
Most courts do know have translator facilities available, but I would suggest that you contact them direct to confirm or request the facility.

Re: advise

If I may suggest that she should contact the supplier of water to the houses, if the water leak is before the meter then they would fix it, if after the meter I would be surprised if they don't contact the owner to sort it out as water loss is quite a serious matter in Spain. If the leak isn't dealt...

Re: TSMS Lakonia Disaster.1963

Hello Paul and Welcome to the A.COM forum, Since I first wrote about this incident I've been amazed as to how many people's lives it touched and I decided some time ago that I would fall back into the shadows and let other people tell their stories, but after reading your story about your father-in-...

Re: S.S.Heliopolis-Controversial Journey Malaga to Hawaii-1907

Thank You Olive and good to know that you found the article interesting, I've found that studying local history really does help with understanding how the locals 'tick' and enables an 'outsider' to fit in and integrate better. I've noticed a short presentation on You tube regarding the SS Heliopoli...

Re: S.S.Heliopolis-Controversial Journey Malaga to Hawaii-1907

Gavilan, Thank you for the input and that is exactly the type of information that I find useful and I will try to visit the museum. It's quite sad when you realise how many families had to 'uproot' and travel to the other side of the world to basically survive , and quite brave when you kn...

S.S.Heliopolis-Controversial Journey Malaga to Hawaii-1907

For quite a long time now I've been researching Spanish social history and thought this story might be of interest to some forum members. In 1907 many people from Andalucia and some other parts of Spain were recruited to go with their families to Hawaii to work in the sugar cane industry and they we...

Hello Miro, I'm really pleased to hear that you have settled back in UK, I know that it must have been difficult, and that you must miss some of your lifestyle in Spain, but it's another chapter in your life .... I'm sure that many people have been grateful for your good clear descriptions of your p...

Re: Gas to Electricity Conversion

Hello Steve, Good advice from Wicksey and very similar situation to our 'set up'. Personally I would keep the gas hob, much cheaper to run than an electric hob and useful to have 'options'. I've fitted numerous electric heaters myself, not difficult, although it would depend on having a close electr...

Re: Pitch up a tent

John, Apart from the valid comments already mentioned, may I suggest that you have also to consider your personal safety, particularly if you are travelling alone. You do run the risk of being robbed, shot for trespassing etc.,I don't want to spoil your dream of staring at the stars etc., I'm just b...

2 Lovers and 1 Hater..!

We have 3 Podenco rescue dogs and recently , by accident, I gave them each a piece of toast with a small amount of Marmite spread on them... The 2 girls absolutely loved their new treat, but Skippy the big brown dog hated it, spat it out and immediately drank about a gallon of water and then spent m...

La Tinotorera, Please let us know the 'outcome' of your 'test' mail... On average my mail out arrives in UK in 4 working days, US 7 to 10 working days, incoming 4-6 days from UK and 5-12 days from the US. I started my first 'mail order' venture in 1969 ( not very successful :( ), and at th...
