Re: Cleaning products

Persil is branded as Skip here. I prefer it as it doesn’t seem to take colour out like Ariel does

Re: To instal aluminium guttering or not?

If you’re in a windy area you might want to install brackets much closer than 1m. We put ours up at 0.5, then found it in the track, having gone over the roof and back patio. All the clips had snapped, which seems to be the weak point of plastic guttering. Ours has now been up for about 6 years with...

Re: Bramley apple trees

A few years ago I asked Ken Muir, who's one of the big sellers, if they would do well here. They said not, as apparently they need a cold winter. I think a few people on here have tried them but whether they did any good I don't know

Re: Monitoring electricity supply

Thanks. I’ve got the Endesa smart meter, but they’re always a couple of days behind. I like the ice cube idea - I was looking for something a bit more high tech, but maybe simpler is better! Telitec were advertising a security camera which you can view from a smartphone. I don’t want to pay 200 € bu...

Monitoring electricity supply

Power supply can be a bit flaky, but since I tend to leave a freezer on when we’re away, it would be really helpful to know if the power has gone off. Is there an app which can somehow look at Electric supply in the house (I leave internet on) so I can ask someone to go in and reset it?

Primera Air?

Just been looking for flights from Malaga to London and Primera air appeared. I’ve never heard of them before and their website indicates theyre Scandinavian, but I’ve no idea how long they’ve been going. Has anybody used them, and what did you think?

Yes, my mobile is with Hits and it’s very good value. I got it through Telitec, who I believe also do landlines

Re: iPad lightening charger cables

I’ve got 4 genuine Apple lightning cables and every one of them is held together with insulating tape. I know my iPad Air needs a hefty charger but would an iPad mini get away with using one of the wireless chargers being talked about? Incidentally Sid, if your cable is still in the box, can I have ...

Re: Spain isnt cheap

We eat out a lot in Spain, since a couple of tapas with a drink does us quite happily for lunch. We love fish and have never found anywhere better than Gamba Dorada in Velez, where you get a full table for two for about 25 euros. We don’t eat out as much when we’re in uk, although it’s not just pric...

Re: OTC drug availability

You can buy lots of the common “uk prescription only” drugs otc. My blood pressure ones cost around 4 euros for the month for two different ones. when my oh left his asthma steroid behind, although he bought it with no problem, it was 51 euros for the month.

Re: fish

It’s such a shame it’s difficult to get here as, being a northern lass, it’s my absolute favourite. I love most fish, other than merluza, which just tastes too fishy! Iceland’s frozen pack used to have 4 fillets in, but it’s down to 3 now. When we’re in uk I also buy their frozen cod, which is good ...

Not sure, as we went by car. The nearest airport is probably Seville. It’s about 3 and half hours drive from Velez malaga, so would be less from Malaga airport

Recommendation Sanlúcar de Barrameda

Just returned from a couple of days here, and we loved it. For foodies, it’s brilliant - more tapas bars than you can count. We particularly liked Casa Balbino. They had literally hundreds of tapas, from seafood to pork fillet cooked in wine (for 2.50). We stayed at hotel Barrameda which is right on...

Re: Compact scented plant needed

I’d go for a scented rose. Take a look at David Austin’s web site. Their plants are expensive, but you will get a good idea of growth and scent. We have some in a very exposed, windy condition, and although they lose all their leaves over winter, they come back every year and flower well. Having sai...
