Re: Thinking of buying in Andalucia...

...and it's not easy to sell quickly in Spain so they are going to have to live with their mistake for some considerable time. Not to mention the quite considerable costs involved in buying and then possibly selling again. Slightly off topic, but some younger relatives (niece & hubby) are buyin...

Re: Moving to UK-

On the other hand - if you leave in the first quarter of the year, you will not have been resident for 183 days so will/can claim to be non-resident for that calendar year and do not have to file a tax return. But the UK will only deem you to be resident from the date you arrive, so you may have a c...

Re: 3% retention tax

Very happy to report that, 2 weeks short of a full year since submitting our claim for reimbursement of the 3% retention, we have finally received it back in full, plus interest - about 1.34%, which is more than we would have earned if the money had been in our own account! Whilst I'm naturally deli...

Never having used a dishwasher, I have no idea - can you use antical tablets in them, like in a washing machine? We had all Balay appliances fitted in our apartment when it was new in 2003 (including a dishwasher which still had the original polystyrene packing inside when we sold the place last yea...

Ahhh.....! I must admit I was utterly confused by that statement (made twice); I read it to mean Unicorn was planning to de-register. Adding that one little word completely changes the meaning.

Re: Temporary healthcare in UK

Still don't understand: why will you take yourself off the social security? If you do that, you surely won't get free healthcare anymore, in Spain or anywhere else?

Re: Temporary healthcare in UK

You are entitled to one - but with conditions, because you're not contributing to the Spanish (or any other) social security. Not all EU countries are as (generous/lax) as the UK; yes, it's a pain in the butt having to go to INSS each time, but that's the price of free healthcare. If you want more f...

Re: Temporary healthcare in UK

You are eligible for a ehic from Spain - you just won't get a plastic card, and you'll only get max. 3 months cover outside Spain per year. See my previous post

Re: Temporary healthcare in UK

Go to your local INSS office and request a tarjeta sanitaria europea (Not sure about TSI - this would be TSE, surely?). You probably need to make an appointment in advance. Assuming your circumstances are the same as mine were - that is, not retirement age but not working or paying into the system e...

Re: Moving to UK-

It's a curious thing, that looking back now, a year on, it doesn't seem like it was really such a big deal or even particularly stressful - yet I know at the time it seemed so! Maybe it's due to the fact that we're so settled and relaxed in our new home / lifestyle. I'm not sure that we (esp. Mrs.M)...

Re: Its cold!

Must be some sort of micro-climate here in Southport. Hardly any rain lately, and we've been sitting in the garden every day for what seems like weeks now. No kidding, I have a better tan now than I had in Spain - probably because in Spain I'd got to the point where I just wanted to keep out ofthe h...

Re: Moving to UK-

I don't regret my time in Spain only I wished we had left earlier....seeing how some elderly people living there were struggling. I wanted to grow old here.

Couldn't have worded it better myself. Exactly our sentiments, too.

Re: Moving to UK-

Hi Gordon, Looking back, it wasn't really particularly difficult - probably the thinking about it was the hardest thing! We never regret our time in Spain - like you, for us it was the "right thing" when we moved there 20 years ago. Moving on (or back) was the right thing now. The strange ...

Re: Moving to UK-

This time last year..... ...we were packing the car up and getting ready for the journey from Spain to the UK. Hard to believe we've been back almost a year! I've just been re-reading some of my old posts here and on other threads. I could try updating some of my thoughts and comments, but there's s...

Re: judiciary

Torremolinos has about three courts - all in what outwardly appear to be regular office blocks. The only clue really is the uniforms on the door. I had the misfortune to have to attend one a few years ago as a witness to a serious assault. The initial witness statement was taken in one of these offi...

Re: Taxation of ETFs and Investment funds in Spain

Good luck with finding an answer to that one! Ask two tax "experts", and you'll get three answers. Chances are a Spanish accountant will have no idea what an ETF is; an English speaking one in Spain will probably have no idea how they're treated. My inclination would be to simply treat the...

Presumably she's been relying on her EHIC for emergency health care so far? And just paying privately as and when needing a GP? Not sure I understand the "why should I?" attitude when it's your own health at stake - unless she's young enough to still believe she'll never get sick! Gasman's...

Our (Spanish) moggie absoutely loves an oral gel product stocked by her (Spanish) vet called U*Vita: https://uranovet.com/en/u-vita/ Doesn't appear to be available in the UK. She hates the malt product they do. They also have it for dogs. We stocked up before leaving last year, and still have a supp...

Re: Buying a property as part of a syndicate

Are both of you saying buying a second home in Spain...is not a sound investment? I appreciate no one can predict how the property market will perform, but as a long term investment it seems to have worked for people in the past. Benny. You're right. I'm not interested in an investment.... Seems to...
