Re: OTC drug availability

I wish I'd known before returning to the UK: I stocked up on a year's supply of thyroid & blood pressure pills in Spain, bought over the counter, expecting to pay over £8 a month for each in the UK, only to discover I get a medical exemption on all my meds!

Re: Request from Gestor

Could that be because you need a valid Spanish mobile number to use cl@ve, and it's fair to assume most non-residents won't have one?

Re: 20 Shades of Green.......

Ideally I would like my house and garden...and a Marbella climate but you can't have it all. Same here! I suppose that the kind of house and location can make great differences..... In many ways; I used to say that ideally we'd transport our apartment from Spain to wherever we choose to live next -...

Re: On this Day

Having been away for so many years, I found it very moving yesterday at 11:00 when in Asda everybody stood still and observed a minute's silence. Made me feel very proud (and lucky) to be British.

Re: Request from Gestor

May be a silly question (and I know you said you don't know why), but wonder why your gestor needs you to get a digital signature at all? Surely if you're using a gestor, that negates the need for one?
(Of course, you may find it useful to have anyway)

Re: Anyway of checking vehicle history?

Are you sure? If the actual chassis number matches as well, that's an amazing bit of luck - but I still think you've just hit upon a surprising coincidence. I've tried on different devices and for different cars - but all I get is an example for a 2006 Seat Ibiza 1.4 Tdi

Re: 20 Shades of Green.......

I've had a few health issues since returning, which I've documented elsewhere, but nothing to do with change of location as far as I can make out - more just a case of being a bit older than I was when I was a bit younger! Mrs.M does suffer from arthritis, particularly the ankles & fingers, but ...

Re: Anyway of checking vehicle history?

I wonder if it's just me who read your post back to front? Utterly confused. I've just spent half an hour trying to figure out how you managed to get a free "informe", until finally realising that your "edit" at the beginning of the post is in fact an addendum and should have bee...

Re: 20 Shades of Green.......

A lovely post, Gordon! I woke up this morning to the sound of rain hammering down outside and thought, oh b***er, I just washed all the windows yesterday. But by the time I got up the rain had stopped and the sun was breaking out, and best of all, the windows were still sparkling clean, whereas in S...

Re: changing status of Bank account to non-resident

So our account is now €5.75 overdrawn! Absurd. Do I care? Not one bit - they can sing for it... Don't you worry that they will...come after you for it, plus charges? In addition to the €5,75 charge for an international transfer, Sabadell last week whacked a €30 annual fee on our account for our deb...

Re: 3% retention tax

The clock will start again once any necessary documentation has been submitted. That's what I'm worried about now. Theoretically, this can go on forever, as they keep coming up with additional requirements every 5 months or so. I understand the requirement for former residents - but then why is it ...

Re: 3% retention tax

Excellent post, thanks Beachcomber. I wonder how long it takes on average for Hacienda to process 210s and discover any errors? :eh: Unless you keep checking with them on a regular basis, the 6 months could be up before any errors come to light, and the clock resets. Theoretically, this could then g...

Glad to hear he's fine now - how awful though. I must say, my MRSA was only really discovered by chance and hasn't really caused me any major problems. It may or may not have been the reason I had a few bites become infected, or why I developed pustules on my chin & face, and may or may not have...

So, was it 8 months, or a year? Bit confused....

Oh, sorry, just realised that's two different members!
I wonder why there's no consistency with these repayments?

Re: Tax residency

Well, this thread is a bit confusing (evidenced by Gasman thinking your reply was to him, not Manchesteral!) as it talks about properties in both countries and the CGT implications of selling one or the other, and being tax resident in one or the other. Not sure if Gasman is planning on selling in S...

Re: Tax residency

If you buy your next habitual residence BEFORE you sell your previous one, can you then claim to put the proceeds of the previous one into the purchase of your next one...? I haven't come across anything that specifically says you can't , but personally I would be wary of how Hacienda would interpr...

Good to know, thanks. I've heard that if they don't pay within 6 months, they're supposed to pay interest - obviously they don't, but has anyone else heard that?

Re: changing status of Bank account to non-resident

HMRC don't issue non resident certificates. As a rule, maybe not. However - and at the risk of sounding negative about Spain and being criticised for it - after 15 or so continuous years of filing my IRPFs, on requesting a certificate of fiscal residency in Spain a few years back to sell a property...

Re: Registration of S1 form

I suggest that it is time that you accept that you now live in the UK and leave it at that. Sounds a bit like I've just been shunned for not living in Andalucia  Contrary to what you may think, in 20 years of living in Spain I have had plenty of positive experiences - believe me, if it had bee...
