Re: Itchy Feet..

Just to clarify, we moved back to the UK after 20 years in Spain, and found no difficulty in adapting, and in no way feel that we have regressed! In fact, in many ways we feel we just leapt forward 20 years!! Pros & cons of both places, of course...

Re: Itchy Feet..

Does Stay mean Stay? Or could there be a chance later on to change your mind again? :D It seems, like us, you're very good at making lists and weighing up all options in order to make very well informed decisions, so I'm quite certain it's the right choice for now. I've no doubt when, or if, you do ...

Re: Thinking of buying in Andalucia...

On the other hand I have no idea why you think they should have asked your thoughts about this subject ! No reason I suppose - but I didn't really say they should have asked our opinion first; only that it's difficult to comment when they ask us what we think after they've done it. If they had aske...

https://www.rastreator.com/ Have never used it, so cannot comment on it's "credibility". As far as I know, comparison sites in general naturally direct you only to their participating companies, and may not therefore necessarily inlcude the best or cheapest available in the relevant market...

Re: "You have no Data Connection" android mobile

I bought a dual SIM Moto G from Amazon UK last year and put a UK PAYG SIM & a Spanish Orange (contract) SIM in. No problems with either.

Re: "You have no Data Connection" android mobile

Yep, requires 4.4 and up. If your phone won't update to a newer version, definitely time for an upgrade! Not sure Argos have the best choice, maybe worth trying Currys (or others) as well. Motorola G6 32GB for £169 looks a good bet.

Have you tried un-installing the app and re-installing it? Rebooting phone?

Gerry, it appears either they've changed how they work, or (more likely!) I've just forgotten. Apologies to others if I have mislead. Recommendation still stands though!

Re: Sabadel national bank transfer fees.

I think you'll find the bank's charge is not for sending the money to Madrid or anywhere else; it's for exchanging it to sterling. With Currency fair there is no charge for exchanging - the rate you see is the rate you get. Can't say for World First, don't know - it's possible their exchange rates a...

Re: How to claim plus valia with tax office

Unfortunately I haven't yet heard of any succesful claims being completed, but going forward, I understand that it's now possible to avoid paying it in the first place as long as you can prove that there has been no gain. I think you still have to submit the tax return, but can do so with a zero res...

Re: Sabadel national bank transfer fees.

Sabadell are consistently inconsistent on their fees; if you ask two people, you'll get at least three different answers, and I wouldn't trust any of them. When we sold our place last year, we set up an account with https://www.currencyfair.com . Very easy to use, you can even set what ex-rate you w...

Re: Moving to UK-

On the other hand - if you leave in the first quarter of the year, you will not have been resident for 183 days so will/can claim to be non-resident for that calendar year and do not have to file a tax return. But the UK will only deem you to be resident from the date you arrive, so you may have a c...

Re: 3% retention tax

Very happy to report that, 2 weeks short of a full year since submitting our claim for reimbursement of the 3% retention, we have finally received it back in full, plus interest - about 1.34%, which is more than we would have earned if the money had been in our own account! Whilst I'm naturally deli...

Ahhh.....! I must admit I was utterly confused by that statement (made twice); I read it to mean Unicorn was planning to de-register. Adding that one little word completely changes the meaning.

Still don't understand: why will you take yourself off the social security? If you do that, you surely won't get free healthcare anymore, in Spain or anywhere else?

Re: Temporary healthcare in UK

You are entitled to one - but with conditions, because you're not contributing to the Spanish (or any other) social security. Not all EU countries are as (generous/lax) as the UK; yes, it's a pain in the butt having to go to INSS each time, but that's the price of free healthcare. If you want more f...

You are eligible for a ehic from Spain - you just won't get a plastic card, and you'll only get max. 3 months cover outside Spain per year. See my previous post

Re: Temporary healthcare in UK

Go to your local INSS office and request a tarjeta sanitaria europea (Not sure about TSI - this would be TSE, surely?). You probably need to make an appointment in advance. Assuming your circumstances are the same as mine were - that is, not retirement age but not working or paying into the system e...
