Re: Structural Engineer

Hi Sid We intend to check our policy and talk to the insurers (Linea Directa) on our return to Spain next month, but one of our acquaintances has anecdotally told us that the same insurers rejected a similar claim by him several years ago, as 'an uninsured risk'...... Perhaps due to his claim also b...

Re: Structural Engineer

Hi Country Boy Built around 1989 by the guy we bought it from in 2004, so relatively new in campo terms. It's a stable, and a garage / utility room, so not critical to our future, but we would like to get it solved. We're checking out the Buildings Insurance, but are hopeful rather than certain........

Structural Engineer

We are experiencing what appears to be some slight cracking in the walls of two outbuildings, and suspect some ground movement or subsidence, and rather than use the time-old method of masterly inactivity to progress the problem, we would like to take professional advice on our best way forward In t...

What3words app

We wondered if anyone had any experience of using the apparently worldwide What3words app in Spain, and whether anyone knows if any of the Spanish emergency services might be using it? Info on the app is online at http://www.what3words.com, and so we’ll not repeat it here, and it is becoming increas...

Re: Credit card fees for car hire

Thanks Screagle - we don't use Jerez, but on the rare occasions we need to hire a car, we'll avoid Firefly online and if they have offices elsewhere. Vote with our feet eh? As others say, credit cards are always needed for car hire - but not only for speeding, parking or other fines, with sums retai...

Re: Credit card fees for car hire

Hola In the interests of we occasional hirers of cars and so that we can be properly informed on our choices, can the OP please advise readers which car hire organisation is charging for use of a credit card? and which location please? As Sid says, perhaps not worth the bother of seeking a refund, b...

Re: Windows 10 - 1903

Hi All Our laptop is a Toshiba Satellite 2.3ghz with 3gb ram and 300gb storage - whatever all that means - bought in November 2010...... The Windows 10 1903 update was apparently downloaded in the background, and then when we were prompted we scheduled the update to take place on our preferred day a...

Hope that this is allowed?

We use Transferwise - https://transferwise.com/ - for transactions in both directions, and have found them very efficient with excellent rates and minimal charges. Throroughly recommended......

We have no connection or other interest

Have a look at their website....

Re: Wood burning stove specialist

We've used 'Rudi & Rofer' in the past when we were down by the coast. They used to have a showroom in Torre del Mar, which was closed last time we were down there, but their workshop just on the outskirts of Torre on the coast road going west, was still open. They were very helpful, and manufact...

Re: Paying Renta Tax Bill in Cash at the bank

We think that his logic is that the Hacienda will pick-up on the unpaid tax when the property is sold, and clam it from the proceeds, plus of course the late payment charges?

Re: Paying Renta Tax Bill in Cash at the bank

We have always (twenty years?) paid our Renta Tax in our local rural village Santander (where we have our account), usually by tarjeta but occasionally by cash..... The clerk usually suggests that we have no need to pay until we sell the property, but accepts our excuse that "We are English&quo...

Re: Having a car to use in UK

Agree with your cost analysis, Peter. The same reasoning that I purchased a car for whilst in Spain Similarly, I agree, but we also investigated Car Clubs in the UK, but there were no reasonably priced and reliable ones where we wanted to live in the UK. There might just be one in your area....... ...

Re: Leroy Merlin - Little Faith

On one of our jaunts to the coast we bought a power washer from the Leroy Merlin store near Plaza Mayor in Malaga, but after several weeks of satisfactory use, it developed what seemed to be an electrical fault, and...

Re: Entering Madrid by car

Hi ashtondav Regret that I don't know, but there will likely be something on the DGT website..... A similar problem must arise in London with their low emissions regime? And of course all cars are subject to the London Congestion Charge, and the Dartford Crossing Charge Above my pay grade I'm afraid...

Re: Entering Madrid by car

Hi Mark We got our 'eco' sticker from our local post office in rural Andalucia last week. You need to take your vehicle documents and the owner's NIE to the post office, and they access a DGT database with the reg number and advise you of which sticker (of the four different types) you need. Cost us...

Fibre Glass Lined Pool

Hi All I wondered if any of you experts out there might be able to advise us? Last year we had our leaking pool refurbished (re-concreted, and covered with two laters of 'painted' fibre glass, and all pipework renewed (previously the pool was ceramically tiled) which seems to have worked, since ther...
