Re: Bank account commission in Spain to be capped at €3 a month

Sabadell have just started to charge 95c for an instant transfer between Spanish banks, free transfers go the next day. I've noticed that they've stopped paying the refund of 2(?)% on direct debits on my account. Perhaps they've changed something in the small print as we only have one utility bill a...

Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-47412708

At the moment it would seem that Spain wishes to maintain the status quo regarding British living here, deal or no deal. Obviously they want a reciprocal arrangement which I think the UK has always offered re EU citizens in the UK.

Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

I see in the second paragraph of that article that it mentions there could be bilateral agreement with the UK regarding licences after the 9 months. So there may be an extension in time. At least the 9 months may give me a bit more time as we cannot apply at the moment as we need our licences to hir...

Slightly east of Velez, we've used Jonathon at Star Cars (on the main road down from the motorway into Nerja, opposite side of Lidl roundabout in the slip road). He's done a very good job a couple of times for us. 637801325

I use this company:

There's no problem being a Spanish resident. I paid 40 pounds for a year's cover.

Re: Junk food

I wouldn't call a home made burger junk food. I use pure beef mince with herbs and a little paprika, we BBQ it and put it in a seeded bun with lettuce, tomato and gherkin. I use mince to make other dishes like bolognese sauce, chilli, moussaka, so why is it any different when you make a burger out o...

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?

Is the TIE the norm for non-EU folk who become resident? When we updated our residence paperwork following the move to Murcia the person before us seemed to have fingerprints taken and other different processes. Our fingerprints are on our original residencia card. Let's hope that we shall get prop...

Re: Restaurant recommendations in La Herradura/Marina del este

Just resurrecting this thread as we had a rare drive out to La Herradura yesterday and I remember Sid recommending some places to eat there. We went to Nuevos Arenas and had a really lovely meal. Menu del Dia (13.90€ pp + drinks). The food was lovely, all home made and beautifully cooked and present...

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?

It seems to say that we can apply after 29 March (providing that remains the date of leaving). Not sure if the local authorities will be on the ball as to us being able to get one just yet. I am hoping it will be the case as it would be so useful. I still carry around my old one but being 10 years o...

I have bought tahini from the health shop in Nerja called Rincon Natural, tucked away behind Currencies Direct shop opposite Supersol (on the western side of town). I have bought it in other health shops around here too, ones that sell vitamin supplements etc. I buy Monks roasted organic tahini whic...

Re: non resident car owners

I didn't realise they charged you just to change ownership of a car, you mention that it can run into quite a few hundred Euros, quite shocking when all the admin involved is the inputting of new owner details so i guess this is just another kind of tax just for owning a car? The reason I said abou...

Re: non resident car owners

If you buy privately you will need to go to a gestoria with the seller for them to handle the transfer. They will check that there are no outstanding debts on the car and will ensure that the person selling is the owner as they will need to provide their ID. You would need to provide NIE, passport a...

Re: Taxing a car I won't own

Unfortunately there is no guarantee that the new owner will pay the tax. I sold a car and the new owner, despite assurances that he would pay, did not pay the tax. Over a year later I found my bank account embargoed for the tax plus interest. I had moved house so the address on the car tax was my o...

Just make sure the transfer is all done properly when you part with it. Good luck in France (been there, done that, and much to our surprise we came back!)

We've just sold our car and the person that bought will be paying the tax. I don't expect to get a bill for it in May as we will no longer be the registered owners.

Re: Exchanging UK driving Licence for a Spanish one

I passed my UK driving when I was 17, which I think is impossible in Spain. I've just checked the insurance policy that came with my car purchase last year and indeed, they've simply added another year to it. The legal grey area of the policy not matching my licence aside, I'm not surprised because...

Re: Waste disposal

Cudeca and several animal charities have shops in the Torre del Mar to Nerja areas. I have donated clothes, books and furniture to them in the past and regularly buy stuff from them, but not sure what there is in Motril area. Anything else we take and leave by the bins. Our knackered old gas BBQ was...

Re: Buying an old house without basic services

Basically, in most areas and particularly in Andalucia building anything or extending anything in the Campo is almost impossible and has been for nearly 20 years. Sid It's like the old days here with small aperos being built and gradually extending to become houses. I can remember seeing the Guardi...
