Re: Perseids 2018 11-12th and 12-13th August.

Thanks Gasman :) In fact I have just found some Jungle Formula at the back of the cupboard. We just don't go outside much in the summer evenings as we get bitten to pieces. Just a few seconds outside and they descend upon us. I would have to spray every inch to avoid getting bitten. We have got a bi...

Re: Rodents

We've never found the ultrasonic devices work. We used to live in a very old farmhouse in France and the roof space was alive with rats. We tried traps (and even put the cats up there one night!) and bought an ultrasonic deterrent but the only thing that worked was poison although I hated using it. ...

Re: Residencia Card/Document Query

People have accepted our old NIE photocard as ID and for NIE purposes apart from the Dr's surgery who needed our passports and original little green residency 'cards' when we recently wanted to change Dr. It does say on the green cards that they cannot be used for ID. SL ours sound like your Dad's. ...

Re: Air Conditioning fitted

I bought four cheap Firstline units from Carrefour and fitted them myself about 12 years ago. No problems with them. Gerry I'm sure I read somewhere recently that they shouldn't now be fitted by anyone not qualified to do so. Not sure if it has to do with the fact they are gassed or something :?: I...

Re: Air Conditioning fitted

I was told that aircon fitters will not usually fit shop bought ones as we looked into that. We have Fujitsu which we are really pleased with. Installed last autumn and we used them all winter for heating and very efficient (they are A++ rated). Our electricity bills were lower than when we used ele...

Re: Perseids 2018 11-12th and 12-13th August.

Well, I wrapped myself up in a sheet like a mummy and lay on a sun lounger and actually saw 5 small ones whizz overhead .... probably the best night ever. I only stayed out about 30 mins as I found I was breathing in midges and when one of the cats decided to crunch loudly on a rat he had just caugh...

Not a sausage ... but then that's usual for me. I shall have a look tonight if the skies clear (it's been cloudy today) but I am not staying out for hours as I get bitten to pieces in our garden.

Lidl do it when it's their 'Greek week'. A friend who loves the stuff buys loads and freezes it.

Re: New car

I've been in a friend's Cactus but hated the dashboard. I prefer old fashioned speedo dials and knobs to control the heating/fan etc. She seemed to be forever prodding and swiping at the screen to get the aircon/fans to work. It's just a personal preference.

Re: Residencia Card/Document Query

I never carry my little green residencia card. I too have my way out of date photo residencia card that is always accepted without question. I would like to have that brought back in as they are so useful. At some point someone will notice that I am now slightly older than the original photo taken a...

Re: Perseids 2018 11-12th and 12-13th August.

Came up with Madrid for me (now reset to Malaga) but a very good video. I never have much luck in spotting anything although I have seen one really big shooting star after hours of watching one year. I never found out what the large flash of light was I saw the other week, I guess no-one else saw it...

Re: Malaga car hire.

Mark I think that most companies' extras are pretty pricey. I can't find examples but I seem to remember seeing it offered for as much as 20 pounds a day. I always use a separate hire car excess policy https://www.icarhireinsurance.com/#0 It will not only cover any excess you may be charged but tyre...

Re: Now In

Lidl's sometimes has the real Greek Feta (and halloumi) when it's Greek week. I did buy some but although it was well within its sellby date it was sour when I opened it which was a disappointment. I do wonder about Lidl's storage units as I've had a lot of 'off' stuff from there which I've never ha...

Our local branch has stopped the focaccia bread though which I thought was quite popular. Things come and go and it's always the items we like that seem to disappear after a while :(

Wicksey, Perhaps I should also eat more avocados, problem is I'm not very keen on them , perhaps I should juice them ? Re: SMS messages from PC to mobiles

Re your VOIP question, if you right click on the SMS in history there should be a menu that pops up with the option to view it. Voipstunt may be cheaper than Skype to message? Also, now that you have credit, calls to UK and Spanish landlines are free (for next 120 days I think).

Re: UK State pension calculation

They may mean 'contracted out'. As a former civil servant my national insurance contributions were 'contracted out' and this will affect my state pension. It is very complicated and from what I have read the contracted out NIC deductions no longer exist. I used to pay slightly less NIC than the non-...
