Re: What "should" a Spanish Abogado do for a UK non-resident buying in Spain ?

I think the others have answered your questions about using a gestoria, but I would say it's a dreadful service if they didn't turn up at the notary! That's one of the most important things, to get your own representative to translate the escritura and challenge any areas that are not clear and to h...

Re: Ping speed

The 4th stage is static.ccgg.telefonica.net so is that likely to be the ISP's source?

Re: Ping speed

Ooops .... I understand now! It goes through 12 stages/hops to get to the google server. 2 said 'request timed out' which is a message I get quite a bit when a page won't load. I'm not sure what the 3 sets of ms figures are beside each stage, but the highest one was 80ms although most are in the 20-...

Re: Ping speed

Firsttango I unplug the router each night anyway so it is rebooted every morning. This morning it's a bit quicker at 50ms. Could be that weekends are worse as there's a lot more people on the Costa then and my signal comes up from there. My ISP is based on the Costa for German clients mainly I think...

Re: Smart TVs with UK apps

My LG has BBC, ITV and Ch4 apps plus YouTube, Netflix, Now, Amazon and Sky. I just changed the address in the setup stages to a UK one and they automatically appeared.

Re: Terracotta tiles for interior/exterior

We have them on the outside terrace and in the conservatory and I wish we didn't. They look very rustic which I don't mind, but ours were hand-made ones from Granada and have an uneven finish so you tend to trip over them, and even though I have put loads of sealant on the indoor ones they are still...

Ping speed

Over the last week or so I have been having problems slow connection speed, not just with my PC but the TV and Smartphone. I only have one item connected at once and rarely have the phone on wifi, but it's been very noticeable on the TV and PC as it's so slow to download pages even though my speed i...

Re: Ryanair luggage change

That's exactly what we say. That's why I liked the second bag rule when it came in as I already have all the stuff I need in front of me and I don't need to get anything out of my hand luggage.

Re: What "should" a Spanish Abogado do for a UK non-resident buying in Spain ?

For a start I would use a gestoria not an abogado. In our experience (this has been the case on two occasions) our own gestoria has had to do a lot of extra work as the abogado the other party was using was useless (and I was told they were expensive). What they are required to do by law I don't kno...

Re: Ryanair luggage change

We travel on mainly Ryanair or Vueling and it's the same every time with some people's carry-on bags being very much larger than ours which are the regulation size. I think that the problem is that the staff just don't have time to argue with everyone as their turnaround time is so short. The moment...

Re: Removal of furniture from fourth floor apartment

How did they get them in I wonder? It's not very common to hoist furniture up to the fourth floor from the outside. They may come apart for moving. We recently dismantled a huge bed settee by taking the arms off so we could extract it from our house.

Re: Newspapers -Granada

The mail is completely open and it's not a bad read ! :? .... can't stand the Mail .... full of 'celebs' and OTT 'shock' stories with too many CAPITAL letters in their titles and takes forever to scroll down the page! We tried it when the Telegraph introduced their subscription charges but ...

Re: Newspapers -Granada

I do sympathise as I also much prefer the paper versions and like to read a book (I don't own a Kindle anyway). However, needs must, so we read the Telegraph online everyday and like El Cid, managed to get a good deal on a subscription a couple of years back so pay 40 pounds a year which is a lot le...

Re: Drug Stores

I buy my contact lens fluid from Soloptical in El Ingenio .... 3 large bottles for 11€, but as already mentioned, available in Mercadona now too. Not sure about the tape but if you're in El Ingenio look in the parafarmacia section of Eroski, otherwise I guess you'll need a farmacia.

Russells is my local English shop but they don't always have it in stock, you'd need to phone first if you were making a special journey.

Re: quorn products

I've only seen the Quorn sausages and burgers at times in stock in our local English shop. I don't know if Arkwrights in Viñuela stocks it as they have changed hands and we haven't been there for ages now. I can't eat soy and the burger-type veggie options now available in Aldi and Mercadona are soy...

You don't say where you are Flashman. I have only found Quorn in English shops here. I imagine Iceland in Fuengirola stocks it.

Re: Drug Stores

There are farmacias of varying sizes but they tend to be expensive. Any form of medicine, even aspirin, is only available from farmacias here, although you can buy some vitamin supplements now from the supermarket. Otherwise you need to go to a large supermarket like Eroski or Carrefour if you want ...

Re: I Really Must Make More Effort !!!

We went to Extremadura in the spring when all the meadows were full of flowers. It was a lovely trip and the local wine is excellent too. Little known (although I see that Aldi has it now in large 2L containers .... it's better than it looks!) the owners of the accommodation we rented said much of i...

Re: I Really Must Make More Effort !!!

Elusive, I second Ubeda and Baeza, and we came back home through the Cazorla national park area. Also as you suggest, walking around the old town Granada is recommended and through the Albaicin up to the viewpoint Mirador San Nicolas which we always do when visiting the city. Extremadura too was a b...
