Jeez .... no thanks. I just thought it would be similar here that's all as I thought the reciprocal arrangement was throughout the EU. Obviously not!

Re: Temporary healthcare in UK

Thanks Miro but you seem to say it's only valid for up to 3 months at a time/max 3 months a year and needs an appointment at the INSS each time which would be a pain. I wanted a card like I had in the UK as we need cover throughout the whole year as we now need to pop back to the UK more often. This...

Re: Temporary healthcare in UK

I'm not sure I understand why I wouldn't get the equivalent of the EHIC to use elsewhere in Europe. What do I do if travelling in other parts of Europe/UK and I fell ill? I am not a pensioner and I do not work here but I am on the NHS in Spain, and had to get a letter from the UK saying I am no long...

Re: Balay

We have 2 filters on the incoming water supply, one catches the big bits of cal and the other has crystals in to soften the water. When we first moved here I was sceptical of the crystals, having had to install a very expensive plumbed-in water softener when we lived in the UK. However, it does seem...

Re: World Cup in UHD on BBC Iplayer

Can't see why not if you've got the correct equipment and at least a 40mbps steady download speed.....  I'm lucky to get 4mbps A good match though last night. BBC HD through the Intelsat was good enough for us. I've got an UHD TV but guess I'll never see anything UHD on it unless Spanish...

Re: buying a new car now requires registerinng on padron?

I've bought 3 cars here over 18 years and we needed to show an up to date padron certificate for each one. They were all bought through dealerships etc, not a private purchase. As with most things here, there doesn't seem to be a set rule for everyone. We had to register with the padron in order to ...

Re: Connecting to Agricultural Water Supply ?

Our neighbour mentioned 35000L per week which is why I thought it was one share. I can remember years ago they were very expensive but as much as I'd like our own water supply, the costs and logistics makes it almost impossible.

Re: UK State Pension and your Annual Spanish Tax Return

A Government (occupational) pension is now added to your total income to see if you reach the taxable limit, even though it isn't taxed here, so it may result in you paying tax on your other income as it did for me one year.

Re: Connecting to Agricultural Water Supply ?

In this area and up to Competa I believe, there is a company that runs the agricultural supply called Patamalara. As I understand it, you have to purchase an 'action' (or share) of water which is an allowance of 35000L per week, although most people I know with homes here have a half or quarter shar...

Re: Are you more sociable in Spain?

I think I am more social as I have more time to be social. When living and working full time in the UK I used to go out with workmates after work sometimes, for a meal, to the theatre or cinema, but now I have all day, every day to pursue hobbies and pastimes, and if I want to stay out late, I don't...

Re: Breaking down on the motorway

Lyric your tyre was like mine. Amazing how it completely shredded and came off the rim. We now have 4 tyres less than a year old so I shall be annoyed if it happened again. Can only think I ran over something to make it go flat. It's never happened before in over 40 years of driving, and I'm really ...

Re: Breaking down on the motorway

In most modern cars with a built in GPS and mapping systems, you can find your location on the screen This also applies to TomTom and similar devices. As the hard shoulder was not as wide as the car, I would not sit in it and risk being wiped out by someone too busy on their phone to notice me. Apa...

Re: Breaking down on the motorway

I'm with Liberty Seguros Gerry. Beachcomber I came back from Malaga by bus and was looking for something similar as I came along the motorway and apart from the very occasional orange km marker I didn't see anything like that. I have just been looking on Google streetview and cannot see any along th...

Breaking down on the motorway

The other weekend we were on the way to Malaga train station to catch my AVE to Madrid when we had a tyre blowout. Luckily we were able to safely drive onto the minimally sized hard shoulder. When I rang for the grua I couldn't really say where I was. There was a sliproad running parallel to the mot...

Re: Its cold!

Just got back from 5 days in Madrid and it was pretty cool at times and rainy. The one day the sun was shining I got a bit burnt, so I am quite glad it wasn't the 34 degrees it was this time last year. Still haven't filled our pool here yet. Quite chilly at night and I'm sure the water wouldn't be t...

Re: Car hire prices

Interesting that the Hertz website quoted 208 pounds for their cheapest car for 5 days in Menorca this summer. Arguscarhire quoted 175 pounds, but Arguscarhire via Travelsupermarket had the same car, including a free 2nd driver (which I thought was only a perk of being a Hertz Goldcard member) for 1...

Re: Septic Tank Pumping Out

When friends got a low offer on their campo house only a few months after putting it on the market, they said you can have it at that price as long as you don't want a DAFO. Like us, they could no longer access where their pozo negro is sited and installing a proper septic tank would be an almost im...

Re: Car hire prices

It is the UK where we have noticed it most. I agree flights are more too. Just booked a flight to the UK (by coincidence for the same dates and on the same day I booked it last year) and it is 50% more than what we paid last year. I think we'll have to have staycations/driving holidays as flying is ...

Car hire prices

I noticed when booking our usual car hire in the UK for May this year it was almost twice the price of previous years. Usually Hertz have had special offers and I've paid less than 70 pounds for 5 to 7 day stays as a Gold member which gives a free second driver and fast track pick up. I am just look...
