Re: Why Do People Pack Up and Leave Their Family To live In Spain ?

I also like the Canaries a lot, going there a couple of times a year. I can see us spending more time there in the future perhaps, particularly as the climate is less extreme than here. However, I find where I live now feels safe, and out of the main holiday seasons it is quiet and the motorways gen...

Re: Why Do People Pack Up and Leave Their Family To live In Spain ?

All I know is that it is bloomin' freezing in our house today. Even in the conservatory which has had a few moments of sun today, it is only 14 degrees. Be aware that in the winter the houses can be really cold as generally they are built without insulation, so when it's only 13 degrees outside as i...

Re: New update on licences from gov.uk

On the other hand, as driving licence acceptance and changing one will almost certainly be covered by a unilateral agreement between the UK and Spain it will probably be OK. Sid Sid you're saying that presumably the UK will still accept EU licences for car hire without any question? I guess that wo...

Re: Bats

We had a colony of bats living in our porch roof when we lived in France. As far as I was aware they lived there all year long and didn't migrate. I used to go out at dusk to watch them all fly the roost. Sometimes they'd take a wrong turn and end up flying around our bedroom or living room when the...

If you pick up the monthly free mags there's details of clubs and associations in them (Insight, Market Place, Soltalk, to name a few). I have found over the years that joining in with those who you share an interest with is a great way to meet people and make friends.

It's a case of making sure we keep it that way, so it's worth making sure that all deductions are included

Re: UK rental Income- Depreciation deduction

We don't earn enough to pay tax here. She is applying the 60% discount and I will check about the additional 3%. She has mentioned something, I'm sure, that she referred to as 'wear and tear' so maybe that's it. It is unlikely we'll earn enough to pay tax for some years yet but I will ask her!

Re: UK rental Income- Depreciation deduction

I'm not sure what my gestoria does with mine. Ours is a freehold house but she's never asked about the land value. I think there is a deduction for wear and tear .... not sure! I do my own accounts and give her all the figures but can't remember if she ever discussed the price we paid for the house ...

Re: UK rental Income- Depreciation deduction

If it's leasehold, would there be a land element in the purchase price? The freeholder will own the land and you pay ground rent for that surely?

Went straight in with just my password so hope I was into the proper site :? The transfer I did is still pend...

Re: Transferwise Borderless account

Many thanks Fyfin, your instructions were a great help. Just had a go at sending a smaller amount to make sure all my details are entered OK. A little bit complicated for the first time, but next time should be more straightforward as the accounts are all set up now. The whole process is made extra ...

Re: Transferwise Borderless account

Thanks Fyfin, I shall have a go at that for my first transfer. It sounds the most cost effective way of sending money if they convert at the full rate, then only charge an 80 cents fee to transfer here.

Re: Transferwise Borderless account

You can transfer between the sterling balance and the euro balance instantly, at the prevailing rate and then transfer out to an external account - transferring from euro to euro a/c incurred a charge of 80 cents on a €1,000 euro transfer. Fyfin, I haven't yet tried to use the account but not sure ...

If it is when the schools are on holiday then I would have thought as early as possible. Not sure if the sales airlines have are for all flights or just a selection of more unpopular times/destinations.

I buy olive by the barrow load and put 2 or 3 loads in the back of our car to bring home. We don't have a lot of dry storage space so that's our limit. I like to choose the size of wood as sometimes we only need smaller branches, and others, bigger chunks. We put a builder's bag in the back of the c...

Re: Transferwise Borderless account

I've got used to paying in the minimum amount to the Spanish bank and now use that with their debit card for day to day spending. We have all our direct debits to fund anyway for our house and cars, so most months I would need to do that transfer anyway. When N/Wide was free I used to use that debit...

Re: Transferwise Borderless account

That is interesting to know. As I mentioned on my thread about transferring euros here, we are stuck with Nationwide who I'm not very happy with at the moment. We are in a similar position to others where we still need a UK bank account and all our income is there, and we have to transfer at least 7...

Just found this regarding the referral bonus:

Your referral bonus will be applied once both accounts have been fully activated and the person who has been referred has completed an exchange and transfer of at least 2,000 EUR or equivalent.
