Re: 100% mortgage

Is it April Fools' Day?

Why would anyone want 100% mortgage when house prices are falling?

Re: Income tax (again!)

Yes, we tried that but our Spanish is not good enough to cope with tax affairs. Our Spanish Accountant speaks really good English so that was best for us.

He has sent us a copy of the form he submitted and we will be able to do it ourselves in the future.

Re: Can we vote in the Local elections

In our village we had PSOE (the existing Mayor, who is seeking re-election). PP PA (Partido Andalucia). We voted this morning, we put the list for the party of our choice in the envelopes and the person in charge of the ballot box read the number from our polling cards to the clerk, who then crossed...

Re: Medical Care in the Dark Ages!

I agree that if you have those awful symptoms then hrt is an option. I was just pointing out that not everyone has the symptoms. I think you said you are 53 now and have had the symptpoms for five years? In which case you started the menopause a lot younger than me (I was 54) and it backs up what my...

Re: Medical Care in the Dark Ages!

I am 61 years old, started my menopause at 54 and have only ever had minor symptoms. I've never had a hot flush. I've never taken hrt or any other medication for it. I know other women like me too, I'm not unusual. A Dr (in England) told me the longer you had periods, the better your menpa...

Re: British Bargains in Miramar Shopping Centre, Fuengirola

It belongs to my husband's cousin's daughter (i.e. a distant relative) - in spite of this I still think it's a good deal.

Re: Dogs in Restaurants

Yes, the same does apply to smokers but that HAS been banned in restaurants. I had some friends round today to watch the Royal Wedding. One of them smokes. She didn't even smoke inside, she sat on the balcony, but even after she had gone the room stunk because she stunk. It's horrible to say because...

Re: Dogs in Restaurants

I also cannot stand to have dogs in restaurants. The law banning them (as well as smoking) in restaurants can't come quick enough for me! Ditto, or have all dog restaurants where they can all gather and lick their bits in peace, and we can avoid the places. I hope you are referring to the dogs........

Re: Dogs in Restaurants

I also cannot stand to have dogs in restaurants. I wonder what all the dog-lovers would say if I brought my pet tortoise in and let it roam around, or let my parrot fly around, or stuck my goldfish bowl on the table? At least the tortoise and fish won't smell, have ticks or fleas or want to lick my ...

Re: Selling House and Capital Gains Tax

So the question of paying CGT will not arise until two years time by which time you will presumably have severed all links with Spain. Yes.....this is what my husband says, but I am sitting here panicking that they will come after me for thousands of euros. However I have come up with a...

Re: Selling House and Capital Gains Tax

Tax is 18% for residents and non-residents alike. Check the co-efficient tables and you can work it out from there. Remember to add in costs of buying/selling/lawyer etc. You will find the coefficients below:- http://www.malagalaw.com/taxation/spaincgt.asp Thanks, I can't work it out though....don'...

Re: Selling House and Capital Gains Tax

Could anyone tell me how much tax there might be if we made a Capital Gain of 80k euros? (Just in case it is deemed that we do have to pay it). We have owned the house since 2003.

Re: Selling House and Capital Gains Tax

Thanks Sid We are in the process of submitting a tax return at the moment, our abogado is doing it for us. We will be buying a new main home in the UK (if we sell the Spanish one). We know where we want to buy and it will be about the same price or slightly more than the proceeds from the sale. We p...
