lechugas and a huge coliflor. Being a North American I find it necessary from to time to time to query certain terminology. For example, what are lechugas? What is coliflor? Apologies. I (and partner) tend to speak and think in both languages. Apart from anything else neither of us want to lose wha...

I wasn't suggesting that we all smuggle alcohol and baccy into Spain Palmtrees    I wasn't for a minute saying that you were - but it does go on, and you do hear people bragging about doing it. I've been asked once by the GC if I was carrying tobacco, and I was so surprised I just g...

Our rubbish orange tree finally died this year after being carefully nurtured (sort of carefully ). We planted the sapling in the spot identified by the neighbour - "buen terreno" and got some flowers. Tree too small to support fruit but the blossom was nice. Never had a single orang...

Everyone seems to be plugging their own areas here  so I think I should say look at the Axarquía (the area that your garden thread is about). Not far from Málaga airport if you use the motorway (non-toll), lots of villages, the usual spectacular mountain views, bits of parts of the coastline a...

I gave up work six years ago - I was pretty exhausted and stressed. I really really wanted to chill out for a while. We bought a small house in the old part of the village, we can see the sea, we have a small terrace garden (mostly full of plants given to me by José next door). Partner has rescued l...

Thanks peteroldracer. I think I'm talking about the second one that's been mentioned, ie on the left hand side going down from the roundabout towards the seafront.

Can't remember the name but there is a good one in Avenida Tore Tore in Torre del Mar (English speaking). Will try and have a look when I am next back there.

Is flying into Gib any good? It's another option for going up to the Costa de la Luz.

I thought about doing this as I too worked in the NHS - I have some numbers and info, but not here. I will look them up when I go back to our other place.

It seemed to be more of a craft fair than anything else. We bought a few lechugas and a huge coliflor.

We haven't been back.

I went shopping in Gib the other week and bought food to bring out into Spain. I don't think there's any restrictions, the only thing they used to worry about was alcohol and baccy, but they weren't stopping many cars at the border when I was there. Don't count on that. OK to bring food into Spain,...

You pay your council tax - IBI - by September (in our area anyway) of the same year, ie 2007 - avoid fines. As a non-resident, you should separately pay wealth tax by the end of December, but in the following year. Does that make sense? ie you pay wealth tax (not too much) on your house by end Dec 2...

There is a good one in Almayate. It has a good reputation. If you find the street where the council office is, the body shop is the second or so on the right. You will see all the cars parked on the outside. If you are interested, we can give more specific info, rather than the above Spanish sort of...
