Re: New Car v Used Car

If the Dokker is essentially a van version of the Duster, it will be a good car. Friends of ours have two of them (Dusters), one in the UK and the other out here. The latter tackles everything that campo and motorway can throw at it, as well as a corkscrew 1-in-5 long driveway up to their house. Rea...

Re: New Car v Used Car

Was going to suggest a Berlingo (or Partner) with full windows, but was unsure how much van-space you needed.

Re: ITV changes recently (odb reader)

Or they don't bother with testing at all. Have seen some cars/4x4s so heavily modified (over-sized wheels, bull-bars, lighting, exhausts, tow-bars, winches...) that removal prior to a test must be well-nigh impossible. Must have well-placed cousins. Good few seriously ancient 4x4s (LandRover, Santan...

Doubt whether they will lay in the adaptors and software for many older vehicles with non-standard diagnostic connections.
Will see at the end of this month when a Citroen with a 30-pin PSA socket gets there...

Kia good; also check out the Dacia Duster - well worth a test drive.

Re: Amazon Echo now availabe in Spain

Even on this forum, subject-matter of posts written or read can rapidly throw up top-bar and bottom-bar ads closely linked to the text. No reason to assume voice-driven devices won't be similarly passing the data back.

Re: Amazon Echo now availabe in Spain

NHK in Japan have been doing a lot of development work with 8k, and are the main source of 8k television cameras at the moment. I read some time back that 8k is effectively the limit of human vision, meaning for example that if you were to stand quite close to an 8k tv screen, you wouldn't be able t...

Re: Amazon Echo now availabe in Spain

Interesting what you both say re: tv picture and sound quality. A good few years ago, Sony did some research into people's perception and appreciation of tv screen picture quality. This was some time ago, as part of on-going development of both Betamax and U-matic, and their then benchmark Trinitron...

Re: How to value a car - in storage for 12 years.

Try looking on an Alfa Romeo/Spider owners' club site, or on Milanuncios - not the best of sites to buy from, but will give an idea of prices, as it lists 000's of cars.

If never charged for something never ordered, but asked for a review, then the request likely to have been a scam - to get you to click on a link in the e-mail. We're getting these regularly now, or something related to 'unauthorized/unusual account activity': purportedly Amazon, Ebay, AliExpress, P...

Re: Amazon Echo now availabe in Spain

It's not necessarily Google, or any other of the device/service providers, that would necessarily do the snooping, but the mere fact that the technology (devices) are now becoming widely installed, and are capable of intelligent eavesdropping or monitoring. OK, you could harbour the same suspicion a...

Re: Plumbing Jointing Compound

For metal-to-metal threaded joints, ask for Metalock liquid (by Tangit). No need for old-fashioned hemp/twine, just use the thick fluid. There's another Tangit one for plastic- or plastic-to-metal joints (which is not a solvent). Both stocked by Proinco (behind Peugeot, V-M) if stuck [no pun intende...

El Cid wrote:You have to activate it by a speech command before it will send data to the remote server for processing. Yes, the microphone is live, but unless activated, it does nothing until it hears the trigger word.

Yes, that's what it says. But is that actually the case, and how would you know?

Re: Amazon Echo now availabe in Spain

We do have one in the house, I'm afraid. Not my choice - it was a present from family to keep in touch via video calls*, which it does rather well. It's just some of the other things it does that concerns me.
* I know there are alternatives, but I'm on a losing wicket there. :silent:

Ferreteria La Noria (Nerja) - or the place next door to them - keep a lot of stove/piping bits and pieces, as well as Tehisu and Bisonte on the Velez-Malaga (Peugeot++) pol.ind.

Re: Amazon Echo now availabe in Spain

Careful where you site the Echo. Camera is all-seeing, just as the mic is all-listening, and able to pick up speech from adjoining rooms. Local muting does not prevent video/audio being remotely activated. To think that we're actually paying to have these bugging devices installed in our homes! Who ...

There is a catering supplier shop in Torre del Mar, in Calle Pasillo Bateria - about 80m down on the LHS from the main road.
